Ms. Quinn, you wrote (in relevant part): "My first reaction was shock. Then anger. John McCain chose a running mate simply because she is a woman and one who appealed to the Republican's conservative evangelical base. Now, with news that Palin's 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant, McCain's pick may not even find support among "family values" voters.
It has happened before, of course. Geraldine Ferraro was chosen as the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 1984 because she was a woman, but that was 24 years ago. I thought we were past this. Apparently not. McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate is a cynical and calculated move. It is a choice made to try to win an election. It is a political gimmick. And it's very high risk. I find it insulting to women, to the Republican party, and to the country."

My dearest friend, a female attorney, 50 years of age, claims that Gov. Palin doesn’t have enough experience to be VP. She isn’t perfect enough because her 17 year old daughter is pregnant and that the only thing Gov. Palin brings to the McCain ticket is a “vagina.” I love my friend dearly, but she is sorely misinformed.
What happened to Sally’s FACE???? She looks so different!! I only recognized her by her voice.......bad face lift? Evil coming out???
Your friend has NO class.
Good....but, you might want to add that Quinn runs in circles where they make their daughters “little problems” go away VERY quickly.....and quietly.
I am furious with these comments from women about Palin and her daughter and infant son. Women like Quinn aren’t about equality for women! Sisterhood? Bullsh*t. Choice? More bullsh*t.
Of course McCain knew about the pregnancy before Friday. It was an open secret in Alaska, the girl is clearly “showing”, and there’s no way Palin wouldn’t have told him. So the campaign announces her as VP and the country loves her. Then they wait (intentionally) until Labor day morning to let the story about the daughter out. It’s a firestorm for about 24 hours, and then we’re back on track. The timing is all intentional, and it shows that McCain’s people know what they’re doing.
Sally Quinn a journalist? lol Come on, Sally Quinn is and has been the Washington DC diva of formal dinners and afternoon cocktail parties where her entire world hinges on rubbing elbows with the rich and famous and having a “confidential word or two with so-and-so.” lol If the McCain ticket wins, she will find a way to air kiss her way back into DC social prominence. And we will all have to hear from her again and again. lol
And you folks voted for Obama because he is black, not because he is qualified to be president.
Dayum!!! You need to put that in the ‘Letters to The Editor!’ :o
But JKF wasn't distracted by his young kids?
Spot on response!!!
“McCain’s pick may not even find support among ‘family values’ voters.”
What nonsense, the opposite is true. Values voters like myself don’t condon this daughter’s premarital sex, but it is done. The “sin” aspects of this is between her and God, and the church she belongs to. I DO commend her for chosing life and to have the child. And I certainly don’t hold Governor Palin and husband accountable.
I have had too many neices that were raised in a “family values” home that still messed up sexually. Being pregnant is NOT a sin, it is the getting there that is. And as I have said, God is the the forgiveness business where genuine repentance takes place. Once again, that is between her and God.
Personally, I see this as a non-issue. It is incredibly stupid of the Dems attack machines to keep bringing this up...it is going to bite them on the backside.
I’m also tired of the ridiculous attacks that say she shouldn’t run for VP with a Down’s Syndrome child. They have already made it clear that Mr. Palin will be the primary care giver for the children.
I have seen a lot of blogs, etc. on the MSM where women voters are saying they have now decided to vote for Obama because of Palin’s pick. I think this is blantant lies. Those individuals had already chosen Senator Obama and they hope to sway the genuine undecided.
Palin was and is a good choice. God willing, if McCain wins, she may be the next president in 4 to 8 years.
Unfortunately, here in NYC one has more opportunity to have friends lacking class and grace especially when it comes to politics.
Quinn you ignorant smut raker. You’re just mad because Bristol’s not a lesbo.
Ben Bradleeee and Sally Quinn!?!>?
That said, she is totally qualified to describe cynical and calculated decision making. She is a total hypocrite to attribute, in a negative fashion, the decision of another in pursuit of a political office. I know only that which I have read of her (starting 40+ years ago)and know that she, of all people, should not criticize any person, much less a woman, for making a calculated decision.
Isn't the governor of Kansas a female Republican?
Frankly, the Palin episode humanizes the GOP. Everyday people with everyday problems.
Or his affairs?
Or his drug dependency?
Kathleen Sibelius? Republican?
She was reportedly on Bambi's short list. I was relieved when he went for Plugs instead.
