ANCHORAGE, Alaska--The presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain announced Monday that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's teenage daughter is pregnant.

In a statement, Palin and husband Todd said, "Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We are proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby, and even prouder to become grandparents."

The couple said Bristol, 17, plans to marry the "young man" who is the father of her child. The Reuters news agency reported Monday that Bristol is five months pregnant.

Bristol is the oldest daughter of Gov. Palin's five children.

The campaign released the statement today to rebut rumor swirling around the internet that Sarah Palin is not really the mother of her youngest child, but that Bristol is the mother of baby Trig, who was born in April. Such rumors, months old here in Alaska, were fueled by the fact that Bristol has appeared at all McCain-Palin campaign events since Friday holding Trig on stage.

McCain knew that Palin's oldest daughter was pregnant before he tapped Palin to be his running mate, campaign officials said Monday.

"Of course he knew," one senior campaign official said, adding that there will be no further comment and requesting that the media respect Bristol Palin's privacy.

Mark Okeson, the assistant principal at Wasilla High School, said Sarah started her junior year there last fall, in the town where Sarah Palin grew up, but Bristol transferred to an Anchorage high school mid-year.

Okeson said Bristol is always an excellent student and popular. "She was very well respected, very kind to be around," he said. "She ran lots of circles." Okeson learned of the McCain camp's statement about Bristol's pregnancy Monday. "I'm sorry to hear this, but I have every confidence they have the abilities and the confidences handle this," he said.

"Just like children should not pay for the sins of the parents, the parents should not pay for the transgressions of the children."

What a tailor-made opportunity for the youth and parents of America to see how real people, possessing faith, hope and love can handle difficult decisions without resorting to the taking of a life!

Which part of "pro-life" does the Left just not understand?

Congratulations to the soon to be grandparents and to the young mother. You have my prayers and my understanding.

I support Sarah even more now than ever after such an attack. The Democrats specialize in proctology and that means they always have their heads in a place most people would not go. They knew the truth all along and created something worse to force her to tell this about her daughter. I am sure they thought the Evangelicals would distance themselves from her. WE SUPPORT YOU ALL THE WAY NOW MORE THAN EVER SARAH!

Lets Piss Off the Lib's and set up "529's" for the parents to be and the baby so mom and dad get a couple of years of school at least and the baby someday goes for 4.

But onto Democratic Blue Collar's in MI.

Just got off the phone with a buddy who's entire inlaws/clan is Dem Blue Collar Michiganders and got to see them all at a picnic.

Probably Pro-Life via their faith.

Everyone likes what they see in Palin.

Folks, this sealed it. "It's Over" for Barry........

I'd tap her too. I'm also crass.

For Liberals to attack Palin’s pregnant daughter would be idiotic. Liberals, especially Feminists, believe that every woman has absolute reproductive rights. So there’s no way Obama, or any of his supporters, should in any way criticize this girl’s decision to remain pregnant. If they do, they will be hypocrites.

So she's not Wonder Woman?

You mean she's human, a regular Joe Ann?

People might just relate to her even better due to this.

ALL of our families have been through a teenage pregnancy.

Her daughter trusted her parents enough to tell them. That's huge.

The Feminists and the Dailykos dirtbags must look really stupid with egg on their faces right about now. That they have come out in support of a Daughter and want to keep the baby is completely morally consistent with their beliefs. Its not like the Joke Limbaugh told about Ted Kennedy. “Senator what about the Abortion Bill?” Well Pay it!!

Consistent with her beliefs. Must infuriate the FemNags.

The event of the this election can't just be a coincidence.

We in America are being given such an open and shut case of choosing a culture of life over a culture of death.

The candidate for the presidency from the Dem's has an even more pro abortion rating that NARAL to the point of supporting infanticide.

His VP pick although claiming to be Catholic has supported all abortion bills presented before him

On the other hand, we have a Presidential candidate, who was given his adopted daughter by Mother Teresa.

Our VP candidate refuses to abort her son when told that he will have Down's Syndrome and who has encourage her daughter to give birth to child.

It an not be a coincidence.

Which part of "pro-life" does the Left just not understand?

They have an answer for everything. I'm sickened by what I'm reading on just one lib forum, not Kos and not DU, on an otherwise happy, upbeat website (something I sorely need and needed by the country, gardening of all types is the main thrust) only with an apparent agenda in the back room. Nobody is perfect. We just do the best we know. THIS is what is wrong with our country.

They are hoping Palin will resign from the ticket.

If he had picked Romney or any of the others, the howling would have been just as bad.

I don't want to be like them. It is one thing to look at a situation honestly and ask questions (usually I wait until some more compassionate soul writes about some of it), but they have their claws and fangs going nonstop.

I've read posts by libs like this is family values? Sneering at abstinence, the ideal. And the one I personally hate the most, why didn't she keep her legs shut? There were two young people involved in it. Once again, sexism rears its ugly head on the left.

Back when I was growing up, I dreaded getting pg out of wedlock because I didn't want to shame my parents. OK, I'll be blunt. Why didn't I keep my legs shut? There was the normal hormonal activity, but I felt pressured into it, lived with terrible guilt my partner ever had, and I wasn't raised to be that religious. Nice girls didn't do those things. Well, years later, we find out nice girls were doing those things. They were just much more secretive about it. Had a couple scares, but didn't have my first child until I'd been married almost 2-1/2 years. It ended in divorce anyway. But when my daughters got pg at about age 17 (glad it wasn't earlier but with the sex ed they got in school, it awakened them to possibilities that didn't occur to me until I was 16 and not 12).

What I wanted to say is that there was generally an outpouring of support for my daughters, and they didn't have to hide in shame, but one had to go to a special school. Even that I wouldn't have made waves over. She couldn't go to her hs graduation though.

Some people would blame me. Some people blame their AWOL father. It's past the blame game, you just pick up and keep on trying to deal with it.

We lost one to adoption. I had prayed fervently at the time but was simply overwhelmed, still had a teenage son to finish raising, could not take on the responsibility of yet another child as a single mom. The adoption was less than ideal because of interference by mean-spirited people although the adoptive family was generally decent, but I feel exploited the situation the way it fell out. Last night, all these lost years later and a missing seat at our holiday tables, I learned that out of the blue, my missing grandchild whom I have grieved over for years called his mother and went to visit her. He didn't want his adoptive mother to know.

I probably won't live to see the ultimate outcome of it, but have one granddaughter to be very proud of. My sister who had suggested we abort her, repented and paid for her education at a private college. She has landed herself a good job, is a lovely girl.

I cling to the hope that God can bring good out of our and others' mistakes.

As Skank Martin said in Mystery Alaska, “Playing hockey and fornicating are the two most fun things to do in cold weather and when I can’t play in the Saturday game anymore I’ll probably just turn into a drunk like my dad.”

A church we attended for over three years boasted a high percentage of liberals who fully supported abortion candidates (Democrats) and actually seemed to resent having anyone in THEIR Sunday school classes who was a conservative and opposed abortion, although I didn’t harp at anyone. (I think it was more that they couldn’t sit and pitchfork “Bush” as much as they wanted during the SS hour.) - Due to that and other puzzling behavior (rancourous business meetings that were laughed at by the preacher, self-righteous and negative behavior from some of these same people, among other things), I finally just left, and my husband left there a few months later.

Democrat logic:

If she’s pregnant, it’s a scandal.

If she sneaks out to get an unerage abortion, she’s exercising her Constitutional rights.
