ANCHORAGE, Alaska--The presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain announced Monday that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's teenage daughter is pregnant.
In a statement, Palin and husband Todd said, "Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We are proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby, and even prouder to become grandparents."
The couple said Bristol, 17, plans to marry the "young man" who is the father of her child. The Reuters news agency reported Monday that Bristol is five months pregnant.
Bristol is the oldest daughter of Gov. Palin's five children.
The campaign released the statement today to rebut rumor swirling around the internet that Sarah Palin is not really the mother of her youngest child, but that Bristol is the mother of baby Trig, who was born in April. Such rumors, months old here in Alaska, were fueled by the fact that Bristol has appeared at all McCain-Palin campaign events since Friday holding Trig on stage.
McCain knew that Palin's oldest daughter was pregnant before he tapped Palin to be his running mate, campaign officials said Monday.
"Of course he knew," one senior campaign official said, adding that there will be no further comment and requesting that the media respect Bristol Palin's privacy.
Mark Okeson, the assistant principal at Wasilla High School, said Sarah started her junior year there last fall, in the town where Sarah Palin grew up, but Bristol transferred to an Anchorage high school mid-year.
Okeson said Bristol is always an excellent student and popular. "She was very well respected, very kind to be around," he said. "She ran lots of circles." Okeson learned of the McCain camp's statement about Bristol's pregnancy Monday. "I'm sorry to hear this, but I have every confidence they have the abilities and the confidences handle this," he said.
"Just like children should not pay for the sins of the parents, the parents should not pay for the transgressions of the children."
Where do we send our gift?
The Palins walk the walk, not just talk the talk. How keeping the baby somehow makes them hypocrites is beyond me.
While murdering unborn babies might be the lefts solution to down syndrome and teen pregnancy, the Palins believe in life.

Everyone in a congregation of Christians should actively rebuke any confessing Christian who claims even the smallest shred of sympathy for Barack Obama. The guy is a bland, smooth-talking murderer.

She may well be 18, by the time the baby is born — same age as Obama’s Mother, when she gave birth to Obama.
And I bet Bristol’s fiancee isn’t already married — as Obama’s Father was, having a wife in Kenya already, when he met Obama’s Mother. And we still don’t know where Obama was REALLY born.
The Obama camp better think twice before throwing stones.
I REPOST my reaction to the news of which I already stated previously:
This has no bearing whatsoever on my continued support of Sarah Palin as Vice President.
The daughter is scheduled to marry the father, and I congratulate them on their oncoming marriage.
I first heard of the report this morning from the phony liberal news (KRON 4 – an NBC family station) on a local channel, of which the station is totally in the tank for Obama, in which the leftist reporting excitedly reported with a smirk the “breaking news – Vice Presidential candidate Palin’s UNMARRIED 17 year-old daughter is pregnant”, the hosts of the report then smiling with the “gotcha’” look.
Of course I followed up on the report to find the welcome and exciting news that this daughter will soon be married, and I welcome the child to be as part of the larger Palin family.
The entire tone of the phony liberal news only hardened my continued support of Palin as the most welcome and exciting news for the Republican Party that I can think of.
Congratulations Palin and Company, another child welcomed into this world!

This happened to my cousins’ family. And the Dad was as strict as anything. The oldest got pregnany TWICE out wedlock then married the second guy. And then her sister got pregnant by a baseball player. The guy was a jerk though.

I say congrats to the Sarah and her family. She’ll make an excellent grandmother. Sure Bristol is a young one but word has it she will be marrying the father of the child. This will be more bait the LibRats will take and end up hanging themselves. They are saying if Sarah cant control her daughter then how can she.....blah blah blah effing blah. I say who the hell can control a 17 year old. This could have happened to Chelsea Hubble if she werent so butt ugly.

Is there a female voting block yet that the Moonbat Obama people have not offended? Yesterday it was mothers who continue to work, Now its mothers who got Pregnant before marriage. They keep this up there will not be a female voting block for them but the Code Pink fascist. And that will bring his poll numbers into the Kucinich territory.
She just scored 10 more points with me. I’ve had to walk this walk with my own, and I like people I can relate to. These things happen and always have. I admire their openness about it and that they chose life, put their faith on the line once again. It isn’t easy to walk this walk whether they marry or not and when the other option is so often seen as the easy way out. May the pregnancy be a healthy one and may their marriage be blessed. May the Palins’ marriage be blessed and strengthened as well. They will be under even more pressure now.
Lucky for me that my mother was pregnant with my older bother when she married my father in 1941 at age 16.
There used to be a saying that went something like, "the first pregnancy takes six months, but all the rest take nine".
