Oh well, the non-vets get crumbs of training to do crappy jobs the private sector could not fill by itself.
Government-sponsored job training and job-finding programs are not there for the benefit of the person seeking work, but for the benefit of employers.
Lack of money is stopping me! Schools have this annoying insistence on getting paid up front. (1/2 j/k)
Start first with a community college. There is considerable financial aid available to local students, including loans, grants, and work-study programs. If you want to get a bachelor’s degree, you can transfer credits from the community college to your four-year state college or state university.
Look into it. I know a number of people going to school with virtually no resources. Since you clearly have internet access, you can research the possibilities online yourself. Believe me, anyone who wants to go to college in America can do so, especially if he is willing to start at the community college level. They accept anybody, regardless of academic background, and the cost is very small.
No, my monthly income is $900 and I am completely ineligible for financial aid. No loans, no grants, no nothing.
Vets EARN Voc-Rehab and is part of federal law.
Unless I am mistaken by your apparent attitude, I’m on the verge of telling you to go to hell.
I don't believe that for an instant.
My wife just filled out her FAFSA forms and with income higher than yours will get some financial aid.
Anybody having problems with this site? For some reason its stuck on one page and will not “refresh”.......
Somehow those two statements are inconsistent. Your income is far below the floor for financial aid.
I am sorry. I will say a prayer for you. They did put something on my husband’s DAC report that has basically blackballed him from the industry.
“No, what’s worse is being discharged after 35 years of employment with the reason being “Unsatisfactory job performance over the past couple weeks”. This being 16 days prior to your permanent layoff date as stated in the WARNA notice you received 6 weeks prior as a result of your plant closing.......
Thats one of the downsides of working in an “At Will” state........”
You should be researching on the internet, if not already, you may have some employee rights that are being violated. Most states are “at will”, unfortunately. We had almost $100,000.00 invested when they pulled the plug, so to speak. Plus no one will hire my husband. He’s got a good safety record and he wasn’t terminated for anything to do with his work performance. They terminated his contract because he “took it public” (i.e. called 911).
If your income level is that low, why are you ineligible for financial aid? Doesn’t make sense.
I have a friend who had a similar situation. He made too much money to be eligible for aid, but he was required to spend 90% of it on child support and alimony, and had to live in poverty himself; he certainly couldn’t pay for classes. So, being an extremely determined and focused individual, he essentially taught himself. He went to a local college and persuaded one of the professors to help him draw up a curriculum so that he could read and study on his own. He devoted about a year of very intensive effort to this home-study course, and at the end of it was knowledgeable enough to get a much better job.
If due to a conviction or other problem you cannot get aid, please consider putting together your own program. You can even prepare for credentialing exams in various fields through your own independent study. It’s better than wringing your hands, and you might enjoy it. I would.
Good luck.
In terminating me they were able to save 8 months of partial salary but had to pay 4 months up front. That actually helped my pension which I commenced 1 year later.
While that first year of no job was tough mentally, once I started my pension I said screw the job search and decided to enjoy being retired. Which I do, immensely.........I'm having more fun "playing" than when I was a kid. Softball 4 mornings a week with other "seniors", trips to the gym, not having to fight 45 minutes of bumper to bumper drive times.......
Work is over rated and I don't miss it one bit.......
Thank you for your prayers.
I’m glad things worked out for you, and am very happy you are enjoying your retirement. People don’t realize how fortunate they are to enjoy it. My dad waited too long to retire. He was 70 when he hurt his foot at work (three fractures) and this is not a good prognosis for someone with diabetes. While he was at home nursing his foot he fell and fractured his femur near the hip joint, so he was wheelchair bound for several months. His hip healed very well, but his foot didn’t. So I’m glad you can appreciate your free time.
