No, my monthly income is $900 and I am completely ineligible for financial aid. No loans, no grants, no nothing.

I don't believe that for an instant.

My wife just filled out her FAFSA forms and with income higher than yours will get some financial aid.

Somehow those two statements are inconsistent. Your income is far below the floor for financial aid.

If your income level is that low, why are you ineligible for financial aid? Doesn’t make sense.

I have a friend who had a similar situation. He made too much money to be eligible for aid, but he was required to spend 90% of it on child support and alimony, and had to live in poverty himself; he certainly couldn’t pay for classes. So, being an extremely determined and focused individual, he essentially taught himself. He went to a local college and persuaded one of the professors to help him draw up a curriculum so that he could read and study on his own. He devoted about a year of very intensive effort to this home-study course, and at the end of it was knowledgeable enough to get a much better job.

If due to a conviction or other problem you cannot get aid, please consider putting together your own program. You can even prepare for credentialing exams in various fields through your own independent study. It’s better than wringing your hands, and you might enjoy it. I would.

Good luck.
