Investigators Confirm Caylee Anthony Is Dead

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Today Sgt. John Allen with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department confirmed what Channel 9 has been reporting since Wednesday. There was a dead body in the trunk of Casey Anthony’s car, and that body was Caylee.

Four Orange County Sheriff’s Detectives joined Texas EquuSearch and about two-hundred volunteers Sunday morning in the search for Caylee Anthony.

Orange County Sheriffs and EquuSearch are asking that individuals interested in assisting in the search go to the staging area. That is located at the Holiday Inn Select at 5750 TG Lee Blvd in Orlando.

Casey Anthony awoke in the Orange County jail, Sunday morning. Despite having bond posted on check fraud charges, she's still behind bars.

McDonald’s Bail Bonds of Kissimmee posted bond for Casey on charges related for forgery, theft and using fraudulent information. Detectives say Casey took nearly $700 from a friend and her parents. Investigators said they have images of Casey using checks at a Target store and a Bank of America. Investigative sources also said Casey may be accused of stealing money that was to be used to pay for her grandfather's living expenses in a Mount Dora assisted-living facility.

"She had used names and checks in an account that didn't belong to her," said Capt. Angelo Nieves of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Although bond has been posted on those charges, a Clearwater bonding company revoked an earlier bond that had been posted on charges related to the disappearance of Casey's young daughter, Caylee. The company had put up $50,000 of a $500,000 bond. A company spokesman said that bond might be reinstated next week. Until then, unless someone can come up with $50,000, Casey will stay in jail. The Anthony family previously was unable to raise that money.

JAIL ROUTINE STAYS THE SAME

Casey is back in protective custody, which is where she was in her previous jail stay. She's allowed three visits a week from someone other than her attorney. During her first stay, she would often refuse to see family members when they showed up at the jail.

Casey made a very brief appearance before an Orange County judge Saturday afternoon on the check fraud charges.

She appeared with her attorney, Jose Baez. She did not speak and the hearing lasted no more than a minute or two. The judge reaffirmed the $3,000 bond and Casey quickly was taken back to her cell.

CHAOTIC SCENE AT ANTHONY HOME

The latest drama unfolded Friday night when Orange County deputies took Casey back into custody at her home Friday evening.

Investigators showed up at the family's home about 8:30pm. They led Casey out in handcuffs to the cheers of waiting protesters, some carrying signs and screaming, "Baby Killer!"

The sheriff's office actions infuriated Casey's mother, Cindy.

She said deputies arrived at the house without a warrant and told her they were taking Casey to a safe place.

"They were grandstanding last night. They forced their way into my house," said Cindy. "I thought they were responding to a 911 call I made about the protesters."

Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez agreed, saying, "This is nothing more than an attempt by law enforcement to play mind games with my client. They leaked the arrest to the media and deliberately avoided telling me so she couldn't turn herself in, in a dignified fashion."

The evening's events unfolded after a tense and volatile day at the family's home. Protesters showed up early Friday evening, demanding Casey go back to jail. However, the protests referred to charges Casey Anthony already faces regarding to the disappearance of her young daughter Caylee.

"I think it's been good that she's been re-arrested. Maybe she'll come clean with the truth," said protester Kellie Gerrett.

Also Friday, subpoenas were issued to the Anthony family telling them they may have to testify in a trial scheduled to start on November 17.

GROUP BEGINS SEARCH

A Texas organization that specializes in searching for humans and human remains used dogs, horses, and airboats to search an area near T.G. Lee Road, Saturday, near the airport. The search turned up nothing and leaders of Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search and Recovery admitted they weren't likely to find much. But volunteers held out hope.

"I'm out here to look for Caylee," said Carrie Wilmer. "Caylee deserves to be buried properly. I'm sorry to say, I don't feel like she's with us anymore. I feel she's with God now."

GEORGE ANTHONY GOES BALLISTIC

George Anthony hit the roof Friday afternoon when two protesters set up camp right in front of his home, throwing chairs and yelling. George's pastor had to hold him back as he unloaded on two men who set up chairs and an umbrella in his card. They came to the house hoping to see Casey hauled back to jail.

"We're just here to watch her be arrested," one of the protestors told Eyewitness News.

As evidence mounts that Caylee is dead, the Anthony family seems to have no end of conspiracy theories. They blame everyone but Casey.

"Maybe someone put a body in the car after it was towed to the tow yard. Why don't you talk to them about their security?" Cindy Anthony said Thursday evening.

The drama even made bounty hunter Leonard Padilla nervous for the media. Padilla had worked with the Clearwater company to post the original bond and had been living outside the Anthony family home in an RV. He pulled out Saturday.

"I don't want you guys sitting there talking to Cindy when she's got a hammer in her hand," Padilla said Friday morning.

STATE ATTORNEY COMMENTS ON DNA EVIDENCE

For the first time, Orange County State Attorney Lawson Lamar weighed in on the evidence in the case Friday. Eyewitness News broke the story Wednesday that DNA evidence reveals Caylee Anthony's body was in her mother's trunk and it shows decomposition that Caylee was dead.

"Law enforcement prosecution throughout all of this has been hoping and praying we find this child a live. That hope has been somewhat diminished by recent forensics," Lamar said.

Despite the evidence, the offer of limited immunity to Casey Anthony remains. An email from prosecutors confirms Anthony's lawyer, Jose Baez, asked for it several weeks ago. The deal means that anything the 22-year-old mother says to investigators would not be used against her in court, only the evidence found.

"The initial thought of offering that level of immunity was that we might gain some information that would lead us to the missing child," Lamar said.

So far, Casey Anthony has not said a word. The State Attorney's Office is waiting for the sheriff's office to send over what's called a "fact package," which includes all the forensic evidence.

Lamar told Eyewitness News he isn't rushing the sheriff's office for that packet. The offer of limited immunity will expire on Tuesday.

CINDY ANTHONY LASHES OUT AT THE MEDIA

Cindy Anthony said she doesn't believe her daughter Casey was responsible for Caylee's death. In fact, she said she doesn't even believe Caylee is dead.

She posted no trespassing signs in front of her home to keep the media away Thursday evening, but then continued to talk to reporters (Images | Raw Video). Cindy said she's sick of the media hanging around her home and reporting on the investigation into what happened to her granddaughter Caylee.

"All you guys want to (explicit) do is out my daughter in jail. Not one of you is doing a damn thing to find my granddaughter!" Cindy screamed.

She hammered no trespassing signs in her front yard to make it clear that she doesn't want anyone at her home except Tim Miller of Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search and Recovery (read about EquuSearch).

"We are not asking Casey one question about anything, you know that's the detective's job. She does have an attorney and our job is to be searchers," Miller said.

His organization has found hundreds of missing people and most of them were alive.

"I want him to do a search around here to satisfy all of you leaches, parasites and all of you maggots," Cindy Anthony said Thursday evening.

Cindy's rant came the day after sources informed Eyewitness News that new DNA evidence shows hair and a stain found inside of Casey Anthony's car belongs to her daughter Caylee. The results showed signs of decomposition, which proves Caylee is dead. Cindy Anthony, though. remains optimistic.

The videos of Caylee remind me so much of my ex-girlfriend’s youngest girl. This one has been very hard to take.

The whole “employed at Universal Studios/Tom Manley” episode from the linked documents is just...bizarre reading.

I read alot of it - the interviews with her friends, the sports authority job that never was, college admissions that never existed.

The whole thing is just incredibly sad

The grandmother is an enabler. She said she smelled a decomposing body in the trunk and later changed her story saying it may have been pizza. She also washed a pair of pants with the same stench that was in the trunk. That is called disposing of evidence and SHE can be charged with that.

I hope that Cindy will be charged with destroying evidence.

If I recall Casey's cell phone records correctly (the flurry of phone calls she made to Cindy and George after being out of contact for a month or more) - well this makes me strongly suspicious that the gp’s assisted Cindy with disposing of/hiding Caylee’s body.

Thanks for the ping. Gustav and politics has pushed this out of the news for the last few days.

Face it, we all knew she was dead.

I was hoping the mother had sold her in an illegal adoption. There are all kinds of people who aren't qualified to adopt, but are desperate to have children. Yeah, it's not good, but better than this.

The grandmother is an enabler.

Bingo! Actually I think she’s worse than that. It seems to me that she’s controlling, manipulative; a pathological liar who loves to be the center of attention and its no wonder her daughter is a sociopath.

The mother seems to have decided that she has lost her granddaughter but she’s not going to lose her daughter too. She’ll do or say anything to hang on to Casey even if it means letting her get away with murder. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
