FR Gun Club - Gun Porn - Revolvers
August 29, 2008 | Shooter 2.5

I was going to have another topic today but since Palin is McCain's running mate, I thought we would be too busy discussing that.

Smith 686 .357 Magnum.

Love the grip engraving...takes me back to care-free days of watching
reruns on black-and-white TV...

My understanding is that episodes of “Have Gun - Will Travel”
will probably never air on major network TV again because...
“it’s too violent”!
More likely, it’s because it showed that too often the only way to
deal with criminals is to just shoot them dead.
That’s a bit too much moral clarity for today’s programmers.

The new "might issue" CCW policy, controlled by local pols, guaranteed that only politicians and crooks could carry legally.

You repeated yourself.

Nope. I play chess. There’s a scene in the Sarah Connor Chronicles where she watches John play chess and it’s a good segment. Lena Headey is a real antigun lefty but I would think she would finally start LISTENING to her lines and it might straighten her out.

The grips do look nice but they are way too small for my hands. I’ll find some Hogues for competition.

Needless to say, the Ruger's have considerably better quality than the el cheapo pieces from Pietta.

And having a .452" bore, they shoot .45 LC / .45 Schofield perfectly.

I had that exact model of Ruger; stainless steel, 5 1/2 barrel, simulated ivory grips. The bore on it was .457 and it was quite heavy. It shot great, but after I had the forcing cone on my '58 cut 11 degrees, it was more accurate and easier to handle, so I sold the Ruger.

My sister had a tear gas gun while her exhubby was in the Navy. No one at the time knew anything about guns in the family so it was the best she could do at the time. Now, her two sons are cops.

HKS. Old school. I bought them years ago and haven’t ungraded. I still can’t remember which way to turn to release. I had to check. Clockwise.

Name a weapon you would not like to have. I've got nothing.

I don't want another crappy SNS .25. I have a drawer full of them.

Check out the SafariLand Comp III. The competition one has a handle that you can hold between your index finger and middle finger. The release is a button on the end, under your thumb. You control the cylinder with your weak hand and you can operate the loader with your strong hand, unassisted. They have smaller models for carry.

I’ve seen some guys in the club using those but at the moment, I have other things to work out. Mostly, getting the ammo together so I can do some intense practice sessions. I already decided on a bullet. I had trouble with semiwadcutters since the rim would hang up on the chamber walls. I found a nice truncated bullet that works just fine.

Reportedly loaded it with bullets. Maybe kept the powder and primers in the case for the Assault Shotgun.

my revolver went back to my Mom. :-) She needed it!

nothing says "I love you, Mom" like personal protection! :)

Absolutely! I think I pissed off my little brother though. Mamma was concerned about personal protection in the VERY rural place where she lives. My younger brother lives with her (most of the time), and he's got a "shorty" S&W M&P M4 clone that she didn't know about! I told her to ask him for it and he won't say no! :-) I haven't called lately, but it's likely that Mamma has upgraded from the .38 revolver to an AR-15!....and little brother still has to clean it for her! :-)

I told her he's got TWO (which is true!), and she didn't know it! Then I scolded him for holding out on Mamma! He look like a scalded dog and promised to show her how to use them. :-) I'll check up soon though and make sure!

Somebody mention revolvers? The one weapon that will remain forever in my possession is my 20-year old Ruger GP100. Thousands of full-house .357 rounds sent down range, and not one hiccup. Barely broken in. Here it is all decked out in Elk antler grip panels by Sack Peterson. After a minute of respectful silence, you may navigate to another webpage... Photobucket

Hey thanks for the info!

Unfortunately, the Kirst Konverter cylinder’s cutouts for the cylinder stop are wider than the stop its self, so there is a bit of slop.

And the barrel is slightly misaligned vertically with the cylinder.

I doubt I would spend any amount to get it blueprinted, but if I ever get the chance to go to Gunsmithing school, I’d probably turn it into a project gun.

I was just curious, on your ‘58,(fixed sights) does the top of the hammer(when cocked) obscure the bottom half of the rear sight?

I have a Security Six with adjustable sights that looks just like that.

Except for the grips, of course. LOL.

Dang! My first revolver was a stainless steel Security Six, 4” barrel with adjustable sights. I pawned it along with most of my collection to pay off bills and qualify for my first mortgage. Of all the firearms I've parted with over the years, I still miss it to this very day.
