I think a lot of the damage was caused when Dolly “parked” right on the coastline. Not near as bad as Fay, but there was a distinctive stall when she made landfall.

What I couldn’t believe was that some of the hotels stayed occupied. Obviously their managers “ain’t from here”. LOL

Dolly knocked out SPI's top 3 hotels, with one stating November before it will be repaired and another stated 1st quarter 2009 before they can reopen.

Ouch, had not heard this news.

I saw that program on DVD. I though it was extremely poorly done and sloppy with a lot of factual errors.

Yes, about 65% of the people stayed on the island, because it's "high season" and they were on their vacation = STUPID! 115 MPH winds were SPI reported on the backside of the hurricane. It took a solid week before electricity was restored to the island. That's why many people don't know about the significant damage. It took a week before property could be properly evaluated and the MSM had already moved on to the next story.

the next two weeks of this season always have me a little antsy and behind Gustav there is more weather coming off Africa now

In the last two hours, two more areas of interest were added to this map. Oh well, it is that time of the year and no one holds a gun to my head making me live in a high risk hurricane zone.

I guess they missed the vids from the Cancun hotels last year and the year before.

The lame stream crews don’t really report that much from Texas anyway, unless it’s about some witch in a ditch.

"It’s the price we pay for living in paradise."

And it's worth every penny. :)

(when you have a responsible local govt who doesn't just pray away storms, yet actually prepares and practices drills for natural disasters)

It could have been worse but signs of Dolly are still all around. There was a lot of damage and not just to the Island. Last week I went to Harlingen and there still is a mobile home park of houses with serious roof damage. Many businesses still don't have signs.

I think the main reason we aren't getting much media coverage though is that people are repairing and there isn't much grumbling....not the kind of stuff the media is interested in. Look at Mississippi and Alabama. How many people know how hard they got hit by Katrina?

I guess what worries me about this storm is that the track has been shifted quite a bit, just wondering if that trend will continue.
