Approximately 30,000 to 40,000 postoperative transsexual women live in the United States, and many thousands more are now in the process of gender transition here. These numbers are much larger than commonly assumed by the public because a veil of invisibility hides the true nature and extent of the transsexual condition. Especially hidden are large numbers of highly successful women who have fully transitioned. The reason is that most successful women live in "stealth mode" or are "woodworked". They leave their pasts behind and hide in plain sight in order to avoid social stigmatization and get on with their new lives. Their personal successes insure that they assimilate and blend right into society.

On another thread I read the suggestion that "transsexuals are freaks and should be shot." I reported this as abuse and it was pulled.
I follow the transgendered threads and I am aware that a often virulent anti-transgendered sentiment pervades Free Republic members in spite of the fact that science is in plain disagreement with many members of Free Republic.
I posted this so that we can all have a better understanding of transsexuals and that only few are "Jerry Springer" regulars.
These are women that from the earliest age have understood that they are different than others, who share the same anatomy.
They go through life hiding the fact because they are aware that should they disclose that fact they will be ridiculed and often persecuted.
Many die from suicide, not being able to fit into the binary boxes that exist. The braver ones are often beaten and murdered.
And some hide, all their life, never able to tell anyone of their nature or express who they really are.
Some argue, "If they have an XY chromosome then they are always male, no matter what they do to their penis"."
A valid answer is, "There are some women that are born with the chromosomes XXY. They have a Y chromosome, but they are very much female and have naturally developed as women despite having a Y chromosome. Are they still males?"
Is it really the chromosome that determines the unique male or female nature of each individual or is there something else at work?
Science is beginning to understand that there are processes at work in the feotal development cycle that determine the gender of a baby, and may also explain the innate nature of each baby as well.
Science Now Explains The Uniqueness of Every Human Being From Conception
We may not agree on the scientific cause of the occurrance, but I hope we can all agree that the answer is not: "Just shoot the freaks!"
I encourage you to look through the photo collection of the Transsexual Women's Success Stories. These women have done an excellent job of transforming the person on outside to match the person that they always were on the inside.

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didnt speak up because I wasnt a Communist;
And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didnt speak up because I wasnt a trade unionist;
And then they came for the Jews, And I didnt speak up because I wasnt a Jew;
And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up."

Isn’t life hard enough without pretending to be what you are not?
Oh uh...
These people go through life pretending to be men because their anatomy requires it, but inwardly, from an earliest age they understand that they are different.
Gender transformation is not solely about cosmetics. It is largely a process of deconstructing the false male identity that transgendered women create throughout their life and then trying to understand and express, in a hostile world, an identity they have suppressed for so long.
