Wasn't me. I merely had to remove an installation of AVG 8 to get one of my clients' computer to work properly. What I found was that AVG was stuck on downloading the updates. Nothing about the email scanning.
Sorry, Swordmaker; seems I crossed you and MarkL. The restrictions come in on the Try/Buy version that reverts to a crippled version if you don’t buy the product. The Free version does scan and secure your Email, both SMTP and POP3. It will also quarantine all attachments if you want it to.
I also disabled the Link Scanner, because it really slows down INet access, even to sites like FR or any search engine; frustrating! As others have also noted no one program gets all infections, so it behooves you to have a couple of other apps to run every week or so. I have AVG on auto, and run Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware on a weekly manual basis. So far I’ve stayed clean.
