1st long gun was a single shot, bolt action, open sighted .22. Next was a single shot Topper .410. Both put a heck of a lot of squirrels, rabbits, quail and assorted other animals on the table. Not to mention a heck of a lot of .22 rounds down range and down field.

I really couldn't think of a better way to start a shooting life than the combination of those 2 guns.
1 shot, see the results and reload.

Of course a lot of folks who started with pistols probably have other opinions. But thats mine.

A friend and I were talking just yesterday about 22’s and 410’s being our first guns. I had an over under 22/410 from Sears that I think branded Sears. We decided that a perfect gun for us would be a 12ga /30-06 over under. In Nevada we often deer hunt when bird season is open and the hunting gods being a fickle bunch you can trip over literally hundreds of chuckar when you have your rifle and a 5x5 buck when you have your shotgun. A 12ga/30-06 would allow you to carry one long gun and git R done!!!

My first long gun was a Steven’s Favorite. It was already nearly shot out when I got it, and my brothers and sisters all learned to shoot with it, too. It was chambered for .22 LR, but also fired .22 short, and .22 CB caps. The barrel is probably worn to about .25 cal now. It was also my dad’s first long gun, and it has taken deer, squirrel, rabbit, many kinds of birds, tin cans and glass bottles.
