From where the other three members of this relay team stood, they watched along with everyone else inside the Water Cube as Lezak -- self-described "late-bloomer," a 32-year-old graybeard in a peachfuzz sport -- hauled off after Bernaird, the chatty Frenchmen, for what was surely a fruitless pursuit, what was sure to be a prophesy fulfilled.
After all, it was Bernard who'd proclaimed defiantly in the days leading up to this showdown: "The Americans? We're going to smash them. That's what we came here for."

I just saw the replay... What was so shameful about it? He didn’t pull the top up during the race.

Lezak really put the pedal to the metal. It was a thrilling sight! The frog’s blank stares were priceless. ;-) Now we know what egg on French Toast looks like!

That was one of the greatest relays I've ever seen!!! What a thrilling finish!
BTW...I don't mind the French talking trash...that just shows that they knew they had to get past the USA for Gold. And they couldn't.

The moment was ruined by Phelps' scandalously low swim suit, which for some reason he half removed before the race had ended. This statement reminds me of Obama & Co who see racism in every single thing.

It was definately mini 1980s moment.
The French with the world record and the favorites. A typical smarmy obnoxious Frenchie talking slimy escargot.
This is my son’s first real Olympics to watch at the age of 12. I’ve been schooling him that China/Russia bad, giving him the whole communist abuse of sports to show the world they are not inferiror etc.
Then up come the French, who I assign the annoyance gnat analogy to...and explain the anti Americanism of the French. Well, in the end we were jumping around at midnight high fiving, yelling, waking my wife up lol. A great Olympic moment yahoooo.

Yes, it happened when Phelps won his first gold, and he was mouthing the words. President Bush was there, too. I read where the technicians played it again and again in full after everyone had left to make sure it didn’t happen again (knowing that they would need it a LOT for the swimming events).

it was a great race...11:30PM I was yelling after watching them pull it out and my wife came downstairs to make sure everything was alright...

The French were stunned.
Phelps and the American team were ecstatic.
Even the teams that came in #4 and #5 broke the old record and still lost. That is how fast this event was.

What aggravates me with the NBC commentators/announcers is this:
For several events the commentators have basically handed other teams the gold medals BEFORE the event takes place. They have implied that the Americans didn't stand a chance of winning.
And in those events, Americans ended up winning.
If there is any 'smashing', it should be the mouths of the commentators.

The moment was ruined by Phelps' scandalously low swim suit, which for some reason he half removed before the race had ended. That was one of the most shameful things I've seen from these Olympics, and it was sad that it came from one of our greatest competitors. that is what you saw? his torso? and it makes you sad? after the amazing performance and the emotional reactions, that is what you take from it? that is S-A-D!

To: KansasGirl
Was this shown live from the Olympics ? or will this be rebroadcast ?
To: KansasGirl
The domestic partner, who professes to hate swimming, was cheering as well and the emotional reaction of the rest of the team, especially Phelps, was so great that he is now interested in the swimming and cheering for Phelps.

Actually, it was shown live, due to the time difference.
It will probably make most of the sports/news outlets. It is available at the links posted above (see #54).
[NBC and the Olympic committee own the rights to all video and broadcasts. They have been vicious about removing videos from non-NBC/Olympic Committee approved websites.]
