Yes and yes. IIRC, we did major attacks twice. The second group was several months later after they rebuilt. It was Japan's main naval base in the South Pacific. The idea was to destroy the enemy and not leave a strong point in the area that could derail our island hopping campaign. It was sound a strategy and far from revenge.

Yes, it’s about Truk. No, Iron Bottom Sound was in the Solomons off of Guadalcanal.
