Peking, Peiping, Beijing — all are romanizations of the same Chinese characters (meaning Northern Capital) The pronounciation of those characters remains the same.

That’s not correct. Peiping was the name of the city when it was not the capital. It was later changed to Beijing when it was made the capital.
