The screen name was quidam.
Supposedly it was Matt Drudge who was quidam although there was speculation that it was William Safire. IIRC Mudboy Slim knew something about his identity.
I suspect it might have been Drudge. Whoever Quidam was, he well informed. He would post vague statements/riddles that hinted at some explosive rumor - well before it became public. He was probably looking for confirmation of some tip.
