Timing of the one loss is important, but sometimes I think its importance is overstated. Back in 1996, Florida lost the last game of the regular season and still played for the title. In 2001, Nebraska lost to Colorado (badly) at the end of the season, missed the Big 12 title game, and still got to play Miami for the BCS title in the Rose Bowl.
Loss timing does factor heavily into the at-large BCS selection. The SEC and Big 12 have had instances when a divsion winner loses the title game and the runner up gets the BCS at large pick. Last season, Tennessee beat Georgia (handily) and won the East. However, because they lost to LSU in the title game, Georgia ended up getting the BCS at-large pick. The same thing happened between Missouri and Kansas.

Andrew Hatch. Originally recruited by LSU's QB coach for BYU when the coach was at BYU and the kid was in high school in Nevada.
Went on a Mormon mission to Chile and hurt his knee playing soccer.
Came home for an operation. Went to Harvard for one year and played in the JV game against Yale with one running and one passing TD.
Walk-on at LSU last year and earned a scholarship. One game against Middle Tennessee with 1 for 2 passing and 27 yards running.
He hurt his shoulder and went redshirt, so this is his second season for eligibility.
After him are the 3 Freshmen with Jarrett Lee of Texas battling Hatch for the starting job.
After those two there is Jordan Jefferson. Think Jamarcus Russell less 50 pounds. Got a good gun and is a pro-type passer with 40 TD's and 7 INT's and a 21-0 W/L record his last two years St. Rose HS in Destrahan, LA, where his junior season was cut short by a broken wrist.
Then there is a another Freshman, T.C. McCartney from Boulder, CO, whom I know absolutely nothing about other than he is currently assigned unie #17.
Bayou Bengals reported last Sunday for camp and Les has his first media day report at 5:10CDT today, so it will be interesting to see how this week has things shaping up.
Other than that, it's 22 days, 6 hrs., 47 min., and 20 secs. to kick-off.

There is a Middie who lives up the street from me and he and I get together and compare Kiwi black and Brasso stories.

Although a true Buckeye fan would never use
the term M******N, but rather TSUN, I would
prefer all of the Big Ten to prosper as the
better competition would only make the Bucks
stronger and better prepared to face the SEC
in BCS games.
I’ve made a regular pilgramige to the Meineke Car Care Bowl for the last 3 years...it’s a lot of fun. That’ Navy/BC game was NUTS, it was so good from a fan perspective (unless you are a Navy fan, that is!). I still remember Navy’s last drive, fumble, and BC’s field goal.
Last year was also a good game, but not nearly as close. Still, it’s a chance to go with my adult son for a “Man’s weekend”. Good stuff!

My nephew went to the Harvard Law School a few years back when Harvard actually went undefeated and he said that Ivy League football was barely better than what he saw in Pennsylvania high school football.

Georgia football excels in classroom during summer semester

ATHENS — A total of 53 Georgia Football players earned GPAs of 3.0 or better including 16 with perfect 4.0s during the recently completed Summer Semester, producing a 3.02 GPA for the football program during that academic period.
“I'm extremely proud of how our players performed in the classroom over the summer,” head coach Mark Richt said. “The fact that every scholarship player in our program was enrolled and we earned better than a 3.0 GPA as a team is a very significant achievement.”
Additional interesting facts produced during Summer Semester include:
— 42 scholarship players posted GPAs of 3.0 or higher
— 24 players earned spots on the Dean's List, achieved by posting a 3.50 GPA or higher on six or more hours with no grades below B
— 17 signees earned GPAs of 3.0 or better
— 11 signees posted perfect 4.0 GPAs.
Players who produced a GPA of 3.0 or better are listed below, with asterisks indicating those who also were named to the Dean's List.

Another interesting story is Auburn which hired a new offensive coordinator from Troy who runs the spread O plus Auburn hired the Steelers defensive coordinator. They could be interesting to watch.

I agree it'll be an interesting year, yet I won't be making any predictions just yet. we may need a few more years to rebuild the program..either way, I'm ready for some football!
