Yes, this really does work.
Now, why don’t we just use this as an embed in the site instead of the mostly broken and almost never works search function we have now?

The problem isn't FreeRepublic, it is members not switching to ‘search by title’ and/or folks who post threads (I am so guilty of this) and not include keywords.

Many newspapers slap their own headlines on stories and columns, thus the same article appearing in one paper may carry a different title in another.

Any external search engine can, and does, index FR
contents.
This is very useful for finding old stuff.
Alas, it is nearly useless for avoiding dupes, because
the indexing is only done a few times a day.
Best way to avoid dupes on recent news:
1. Find the original story publisher.
2. Use FR title search on the exact title from the source.
It still won’t catch the dupe 30 seconds ahead of you.
On unmoderated, or post-moderated sites, this just
comes with the territory. If you are the dupe, ask
a mod to merge, lock or kill you.

Sirs, respectfully calling your attention to this thread. Can we please get some of these issues fixed/resolved/added?

If you open google and hit "advanced search," then scroll down to find particular site or domain, you can do the same thing.
If you are searching for someone's posts, the google system has the most frequently looked-at ones first, rather than the most recent (or some similar calculation of their devising).

Which search engine do I use to bring up this thread for later use?
To: xcamel
How about archives?
When I have used google before, my results include posts at
freerepublic.com
freerepublic.info
209.157.64.200
209.157.64.201
(and possibly others)
Sometimes they seem like duplicates, sometimes not.
Are certain things stored on certain sites/servers?
Knowing the structure may facilitate searching for older posts.

If you understand the search function here and use it properly, it works just fine. I have looked for older articles when I remember just a word or two of the title, and I find them pretty darn quick and easy.

There are some who don't like the fact that a topic under discussion violates some religious precept of theirs so they simply hijack the thread and restart it as a duplicate under the RELIGION category.
They then establish it as ECUMENICAL, which they interpret as being Stalinesque (the exact opposite of ecumenical).
For some reason the RELIGION MODERATOR is tolerating this nonsense. Earlier at least one RELIGION MODERATOR would simply re-categorize such threads on the request of the same dishonest thread duplicator.
This practice must be stopped!

I never Google!
The biggest dupe problem we have now is you have multiple one and two line snips posted with little meat attached... from multiple varied sites including TV stations, news sites, blogs , etc and then folks just popping one off themselves.
It’s the nature of the media beast. Do what I did.
I retreat more from FR than I used to but not becuz of dupes... and it’s nice to see such a solid group of regulars pitching forks and tossing the threads at the wall.
I am OBama’d out .. I’m My FRiends’d out .. I don’t even get excited when the GoP House riots ..
I relish the day when we outlaw 24 by 7 politicking which goes on now even in off election years.
As a nation, we are politicking ourselves to death. How the heck can we live in peace when we are constantly in each others face and egged on by a bunch of mutts and pundits.
Thanks for posting this, btw. Have a good one.
