BATTLE OVER CONFEDERATE FLAG HITS HIGHWAYS
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | August 4, 2008 | Patrik Jonsson

TAMPA, FLA. - Chip Witte doesn't consider himself a Rebel. He doesn't hang Dixie battle flags in his living room, nor does he wear one on the back of his leather jacket.

Yet when the Tampa motorcycle mechanic saw the world's largest Confederate battle flag unfurl above the intersection of I-75 and I-4 in June, he felt a jolt of solidarity with the lost cause and lost rights that he says the battle flag represents. "I think it's great that they're allowed to fly it," says Mr. Witte. [Editor's note: The original version misidentified the highway intersection.]

Its a nice flag and its part of American history.

As long as it isn’t used in a racist connotation, its fine.

Its worth pointing out, however, that the Confederate Battle Flag had a squarer shape and the rectangle, was, i believe, used on naval vessels.

Personally, I like the Stars and Bars and the Bonnie Blue Flag myself.

“Moreover, the NCAA recently got flak from some newspapers for banning championship games in South Carolina and Mississippi, but not in Alabama, which also has Confederate regalia as part of its official symbols.”

What thought-policing scum. Mississippi had a REFERENDUM on that flag or the PC-flag, and the 1898 (?) flag won.

Georgia has apparently enacted a slightly modified CSA 1st national flag as the state flag as well.

The flag is not a racist flag — but a synbol of STATE RIGHTS!! The south went to war to protect their rights, not to keep slaves, but to keep the federal government from getting to big.

The south went to war to protect their rights, not to keep slaves, but to keep the federal government from getting to big.

That's completely and embarrassingly false.

Of course, there's no reason why the flag shouldn't fly - it's part of US history.

When I see the stars and bars I’m reminded of an Confederate Army that surrendered during a major battle to a regiment with practically no bullets.

Losers.

I seem to have forgotten all about this Confederate army which surrendered to a regimen which was not possessed of any bullets.

Could you refresh my recollection?

How does it feel to almost get your butt beat by a bunch of farmers with mules and pitchforks?

Ahhhh...yesterday’s version of the story had this flag flying at the intersection of I-4 and I-10...except that the two do not meet...I-4 and I-75 sounds more like it...

Both armies were filled with farmers.

The major reason why the Union was ever in danger on the battlefield was not the Confederate rank and file, but the generalship of Robert E. Lee.

And Robert E. Lee, far from being a farmer with a pitchfork and a mule, was about the closest thing America had to a European prince.

Boooooo!!!!

One nation, one flag. Put it on bumpstickers if one must, but as for flying it in public spaces - no way. Take it down.

“Getting too big to do what?”

Control everything the states did - like, uh, NOW!!!

The Tenth Amendment was laid to rest - de facto - in the Civil War.

If a group of white racists or the idiots in the KKK are using the Confederate Flag, they are abusing it.

Lee never was in the KKK and neither were most of his generals. Forrest founded it but it was originally targeted at carpetbaggers and yankees.

.....flying the Stars and Bars big and open like that is not about states rights or slavery or Confederate sacrifice....I’ll tell you what it’s about....it’s about white resistance, and it’s another little milestone on the road to the coming Civil War...the first one was extremely violent but not particularly vicious....very little torture or mutilation of the dead...primarily because each side recognised the other as co-ethnics....the next one will be all out race war and will be terrible beyond belief....every time LaRaza demands return of “their” land, every time a Confederate flag goes up in public, every time a black public figure mentions reparations, think: race war is coming.

Stonewalls, whose g-grandfather served in Co G/3rd Fla Inf, was captured at Chickamauga, spent two years imprisoned at Camp Douglas in Chicago, and walked 1000 miles home in 1865 rather than take the loyalty oath and get a Union railroad pass.

It ain’t gonna happen.

Too many whites and blacks have close connections, too much intermarriage, too many Hispanics who could care less about color and too many blacks moving up into the society and becoming establishment stakeholders.

If we have another civil war it will probably be with the Muzzies when they become numerous enough to start demanding Sharia Law and try to take away our beers, bikinis, dogs and ham.
