“I’m really sort of bummed about the cameras... “

I bought a Samsung L-60 6mp digital camera for my wife a couple of years ago at Sam's Club, $199. She leaned against it, and crushed the LCD. We sent it in to the warranty service folks, with a letter explaining how important it was too her, and how it got crushed (against her wheelchair), and asked how much it would cost to repair. They fixed it and sent it back. For free. Reason for repair was listed as “short circuit.” Yep, you crush the LCD, things WILL short circuit!

We've got two of them now, one for her, and one for me. She got the new one, since we expected it to be expensive to fix the old one, and I got hers when it came back. I will never buy another point-and-shoot digital camera that isn't Samsung. (I do hope, one day, to get a Canon digital that will take the lenses from my EOS Elan 7 SLR, however.)

A Samsung eh? I'll remember that because my youngsters sell a lot of stuff on e-bay and CraigsList and I can say with a fair amount surety that they won't be without a camera for long! :-) Thanks!

I will never buy another point-and-shoot digital camera that isn't Samsung.

I got a Samsung Digital Model S85 camera in June at WalMart for
$105.
Eight MegaPixels, 5X optical zoom, plenty of shooting modes.
Very good macro mode for close-ups of flowers, etc.
Heck, for this thread, I suspect it would do nice photos and
close-ups of rifles, pistols and revolvers for that matter!
(It was the last one they had at WalMart in Columbia, MO at
the time.)

It ain't a Digital SLR, the shutter release is a bit slow...
but for $105 I am VERY Happy.
If something breaks, or some larcenous stinker runs off with it...
well, I've probably will have gotten $105 worth of use out of it already!

Not that I'm down on Japan...but sending some $ to South Korea
is a nice change of pace.
