FR's Gun Club - Friday's Gun Porn
None | August 1, 2008 | Shooter 2.5

Posted on 08/01/2008 5:04:06 AM PDT by Shooter 2.5

This is one of the first installments from Free Republic's Gun Club. It's going to be a daily discussion on subjects covering firearms, Gun Rights and overall firearms experiences.

Some years ago, Friday seemed to be the time to post photos of our favorite toys. I volunteered to make it a weekly occurance.

One of the things I did learn through the years, though. It's not the gun. It's just a tool in the hands of the person who makes it happen. That rusty and pitted .38 revolver may not look like much but to the owner, it may have helped in getting out of a lot of scrapes. Also, that match pistol may look good but it might have been instrumental in losing more matches than the one half it's price and bone stock.

So let's see 'em. The pretty ones, the ugly ones and the dusty ones including the old favorite grampa gave us when he passed on.

Yeah, it’s a lefty. It’s also got a quick change barrel set up so I can go from .50 to say... .416 Barrett. Or I can put a special application .50 barrel on the gun.

We use McMillan actions and Mike Rock barrels on these guns.

I've been carrying a Ruger SP101 357 in a Galco deep cover holster for the last month or so. I like the pistol, but I've considered having it "melted" and having the hammer bobbed to make it more comfortable to carry. The holster protects me from most of the sharp edges, but once in a while I'll squat or turn just right and get the hammer spur right in the love handle.

Another down side is that I carry a couple of speedloaders and they're harder to conceal than the pistol. I need to find a good IWB holster for the Sig and put the Ruger back in the bedside table.

The Galco holster I like is called a Royal Guard. I don’t know if they make it for a Sig.

I would try to knock the sharp edges off myself before I would trust a gunsmith. The purpose is to dull the edge and not radius it.

FN HiPower 9MM

The nice thing about this one is when the safety comes off, the hammer cocks itself and then you're ready to fire it. No more condition one on this pistol.

And yes, I am an easy customer for someone making nice grips.

“9MM Mauser Broomhandle”

I'd prefer it in 7.63mm, but here I sit, drooling anyway....

Always wanted a broomhandle. The shoulder-stock holster is flat cool.

“FN HiPower 9MM”

I had, for a very short time, a 9mm Belgian HiPower, with Nazi markings, dated 1939. It had a bulged barrel from the previous owner shooting some very hot submachine-gun rounds through it, so it got swapped for a Remington 870 with a 5-shot mag extension, and an evil-black-gun folding stock. I liked them both, but I'd settle for a GI issue 1911. (OK, so right now, I'd settle for a Raven .25)

I thought about cleaning the hinge on the wooden holster but I didn’t get around to it. I was lucky to find a clean one. I also didn’t get around to buying the proper red nine grips. Maybe this winter.

I don’t know why. I have a couple of 9MM’s and it’s easy to buy at walmart or Bass Pro.

The FN was going to be my chick dating gun in case I brought a date to the range. I think that hammer and safety combination is just so cool.

Check with Ruger. They have a bobbed hammer for the SP101.

That is indeed a nice looking pistol.

My little tack driver looks just like this one.

Thanks. The Minolta digital camera helped too. It was shot under indirect sunlight beneath a white bed sheet.

Stay away from any brown, yellow, red or orange backgrounds. It makes the guns look rusty.

Need some more information if you’re going to post pictures. Model 59? Caliber? 9MM?

Thanks. I think the Illinois State Police were the first to use autos and they chose the Smith 59’s. My Brother in Law had one like you until the Oak Park gun ban. That’s the one the cops stole from him.
