Normally this wouldn’t happen. Thanks to Global Warming, the leopard was forced to step outside its safety zone and hunt crocs (I refuse to tag this!).

Jaguars, on the other hand, more routinely take out Caimans. They’re more muscular cats than are leopards and Caimans are probably on the average smaller than your average croc.

And tigers far more routinely hunt crocs, as well. Well, if anyone is interested in which cats have the best handbags. ;)

Nature red in tooth and claw.

Check out these pictures of great whites hunting seals linked on the same page as the leopard/croc pics:

It just doesn’t make sense. The meat you get out of a crocodile is just not worth the risk it takes a predator to acquire.

Perhaps the cat had cubs nearby, being menaced by the croc. Or maybe kitty just had a hankering for seafood.

A real liberal nightmare. Two endangered species feeding on each other.

Sometimes you get the croc, sometimes the croc get you.

I always thought the Predator vs Predator scenarios on Animal Planet were rigged against the cats, if a 200lb African Leopard can carry a 600lb prey animal up to the top of a tree, this kill is clearly within the Leopard’s capabilities.

A cougar, A.K.A. “the Endangered Florida Panther”, died from having indulged in a new food source - alligators, to be specific.

The gators are predators at least two levels up the food chain from the deer which the hapless cougar was evolved to eat.

Unfortunately, Mr. Gator had too much mercury and when Mr. Endangered Florida Panther ate gator as a regular diet, the mercury was concentrated to such a degree that the cat died of mercury poisoning.

Maybe the EPA will therefore have to declare Everglades National park a mercury contaminated site and Ranger Randy could apply for SuperFund cleanup funds.

;-)

"Thanks to Global Warming, the leopard was forced to step outside its safety zone and hunt crocs."

You've got it wrong. Due to global warming induced drought, the croc was caught outside the safety of his normal watery habitat making it easy prey for the leopard. The croc was no doubt dehydrated...he should have had a Gatorade ;-)
