When unveiling new performance models, car companies usually boast about horsepower, engine size and expected zero-to-60 times. But when General Motors unveiled the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Monday afternoon, it was the car's fuel economy numbers that were front and center.
It's the return of a once-popular model that has been out of production since the 2002 model year. V6 versions, which GM expects will be the biggest sellers, are expected to get 26 miles per gallon on the highway. That's about the same as a V6 Ford Mustang, while boasting the same horsepower output as a V8 Mustang.

looks like a mustang with a pointy front.

It does have the looks of all three of the American muscle cars in my lowly opinion.

I’ll stick with my SAAB’s. Throughout all the energy crap they remain economical, versatile, fun, and quick enough to get the “H” out of their own way.
...and we have title to all three of them.

:-) Thanx. I'd say Sushiman

got toasted fairly well for his comment about needs. Unfortunately there are a LOT of people who are all to willing to limit what you can do according to their idea of what's right. Most of them will vote for Obama.

I still say they should've gone with this student design.

Or even this one.

Will never forget catching a ride from a classmate one rainy night in 1983 in his shiny black Trans Am.
Then he told me it was a 4-cylinder.
I wanted to get out then & there.

The T-bird was a dead model, that they tried to resurrect. The Camaro is a car that they discontinued, just so they could reintroduce it 2 years later. If the Corvette was the size of the Pontiac Solstice, had much more power and was nothing but handling and quality from the ground up, GM would have an equal to the Porche 911. Instead, they have something that looks like Speed Racer's Mach 5, built by the same people that put together the Cobalt.

GM unveils 'fuel-sipping' Camaro If 26 mpg is what GM calls fuel-sipping, GM has already put the For Sale Sign out and called it quits.

Front looks great. Rear looks like it got squashed. Red is my favorite color although it's hard to tell the shade from that pic.
Man GM has got to respond faster if they want to survive. They dropped the Camaro just when the Mustang was taking off and it's taken them this long to respond.
If the were smart they'd offer the versions. A thrifty 4 cylinder model (maybe turboed). A medium V-6 which got 30MPG highway for us commuters and a fire breathing V8. Bring back the Z-28?

My 2006 Sonata V-6 was advertised at 30 MPG highway. I can get 35 sometimes. And it cranks! GM’s V-6s were claiming 30 MPG highway until the last couple of years. Don't know why their down to 26 MPG now.

Don't know why their down to 26 MPG now. The EPA changed the calculation to better reflect "real world" conditions, which had the effect of substantially lowering estimated mileage.
I've always gotten more than the EPA estimate, but that's just me...

Have you told the dealership that an ugly dash might cause you to have second thoughts.I did tell a sales guy in 1994 that I thought the Z-28 dash controls were cheap POS. When asked why, I reached in and flipped up the turn indicator stalk. Made a most disagreeable CRACK like it was breaking off. Told him that was just one of several things about the interior that was unacceptably cheap. May be no big deal to GM drivers, but not me.

Sure 400hp is overkill, but so what? Should people be stopped? Why shouldn’t I be able to buy a powerful performance car if I can afford to?
Even enlightened Germany sells Porsches and AMG Mercedes with far more horsepower and far worse mileage.
The US is still a free country where people can choose the car they want, even if it isn’t a three-cylinder cracker-box.
