The difference between going through a Sunday as a married woman versus as a single gal is striking. First of all, in my single hood days in D.C., Id be arriving back at my condo in the wee hours of the morning and would sleep and nurse a hangover for the rest of the day. As a married woman and mom in suburban Maryland, my Sundays are quiet and mainly consist of doing things with my family or around the house. However, during football season my husband and son normally get involved with sports and NFL Sunday for the whole day, giving me precious time to myself. During this precious time, I read the newspapers, watch news programs on T.V. and other media, and listen to talk radio for the entire afternoon and evening. Until recently.
You see, two of my favorite radio talk show hosts have disappeared from the airwaves on Sundays, leaving a huge void in my weekend entertainment choices. While some women might consider the Lifetime Channels ongoing Im-going-to-kill-my-husbands-mistress-and-then-Im-going-to-decapitate-him movies of the week as their entertainment choice, I stick with news talk radio - my favorite source of information (and less bloody!)
Matt Drudge, of the very popular Drudge Report, used to have a radio show, Drudge Radio, on Sunday evenings. If you think that Matt is brilliant in his gathering of news for his site, then he was ten times better as a radio talk show host. Matts unique ability to be able to mix politics, pop culture, music and Hollywood shenanigans - while displaying a dry sense of humor on the mic - made his show one of the most interesting and fascinating radio programs in America. Im in awe of Matts mind and how it works. It appears that Matt wanted to concentrate exclusively on his web site, and he left radio last September. There are many of us yearning for his return to radio, and he knows this. Im sure that we havent seen the last of Drudge Radio yet! (A big shout-out to Lainie, coordinator of the Drudge Radio discussion forum!)
But, the bulk of my Sunday time was saved for 630 WMALs Pet Liberal, Jerry Klein. Jerry has been a fixture in various WMAL programs for years, and he used to host a show with Chris Plante as well. Since Plante moved to week days, Jerry then had Sundays all to himself. While I dont agree with anything that Jerry stands for (I think I agreed with him only once in the fact that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was a homicidal maniac), the truth remains that people like Jerry should be on-air, especially in a conservative-leaning radio station like WMAL, so that listeners can hear and digest their incoherent and liberal rants/analysis on the issues of the day.
Once Jerry opens his mouth about something, it brings a smile to my face because it is, in my view, complete nonsense and wrong. If the Fairness Doctrine gets re-enacted by Congress or a new administration (Lord help us!) then Jerrys voice should be the first one back on-air.
While I view Jerry this way in his political and analytical thinking, I must admit that I do have somewhat of a crush on him. Hes one of the warmest, funniest and deeply caring persons I know. Ive seen him a few times in the past months and I still giggle like a teenage schoolgirl when Im in his presence. I hope to be able to listen to him again on-air in the future.
In the meantime, as an avid 630 WMAL listener, my week day mornings are still occupied by listening to the wonderful Chris Plante, and my week day evenings are spent listening to The Evening Show, hosted by Austin Hill. As Drudge Radio was leaving a void in the politics-entertainment-pop culture mix, Austin picked that up and swept with it. Hes very analytical in the news of the day and in handling all sorts of national, state and local topics. Plus, he sometimes plays Spanish bumper music! I urge you to give him a listen sometime.
As North Koreas Kim Jong-Il might sing . Im So Ronery (from the film Team America World Police). Well, I might be lonely on Sundays, but my present radio guys sure know how to treat a girl during the rest of the week!
Come back , Matt & Jerry!
lol!!!
I miss Drudge Radio on Sunday nights. I can get replay of Lars Larson who is out of Oregon or Washington. But it is not the same. Not to mention the great Drudge Radio Thread hosted by lainie that would run almost a thousand posts or more in one night. Great stuff.
On his radio show Drudge did do commentary. On his website he is reporting what is in the headlines. I don’t see Drudge choosing sides on his website. However I do understand your frustration regarding the overall coverage of Obama.
OMG!!! I’m watching The Simpsons and Family Guy RIGHT NOW! They’re my favorite Sunday night shows too....
You’ll laugh your butt off with Family Guy tonight, when you get it on the West Coast....
Sick.... very sick!
Actually, Im in Cincinnati so it’s on now... and a repeat no less! Seinfeld, Simpsons and Family Guy reruns I can watch over and over again and still be entertained.
Okay. For some reason, I thought you were in Orange County, CA.
I had not seen that Family Guy episode. The O.J. Simpson part was unreal. The writers are amazing.
LOL! And I thought your last name was Waldorf and you were a Doctor back on the Drudge thread. OCC is short for Operation Clinton Cleanup which was my screen name from 2001-2007.
It’s funny how we think who some people might be, and they turn out to be someone completely different. I still cannot differentiate some longtime Freepers of the Drudge Radio Forum, and whether or not they’re males or females. I guess this is the anonymity that the Internet provides us all.
Do you watch “American Dad” too?
Looking good, Silvie!
Tell hubby to get his specs checked and give the remote a little rest ~ you won’t be so “ronery”.
I miss Drudge, too. His show was a hoot, though with too many commercials. You know my feelings for Komrade Klein.
Ain’t been FReeping so much these days ~ busy with summer ~ hope that your summer is going well.
Summer is going great — and going by fast (thank goodness!) Can’t wait for school to start for my son on 8/25.... I need more precious time to me, myself & I!
We don’t even mention the “s” word. We can wait.
What’s up withthe pulled commentaries? Klein-haters??
The pulled commentaries by the Mods were related to Matt Drudge. I told the Mods to pull them down.
Hmm? Interesting?
I guess that I been out of the loop; while I have been reading Drudge lately I don’t notice any slant toward Obama.
Barry is in the news, while the McCain campaign, for all intents and purposes, is invisible.
Where’s the conspiracy in that?
The pulled commentaries were personal attacks on Matt, so I had them removed. This is a thread about my views and "crush" on Drudge "the blogger" and "radio personality" and not about details of his personal life, as viewed by others.
Ah,...yes. So, I have heard before.
Funny how folks who can’t hold defend their own point of view turn to character assassination.
There’s a few hair triggers and trolls out there in FReepland. It makes the whole place less fun!
Looks like I missed the fun. I don’t always log in here on Sundays anymore. Because they’re usually depressing. :-)
You’ve been a busy bee, Silvie!! I have no idea who Jerry Klein is, but I certainly do miss the Drudge Report radio show. I appreciate the kind words about the thread, but I really didn’t do anything — it was all of the participants who made it so much fun. And who made it sucky on occasion, but that’s another topic. ha!
I don’t know, but I’d meet him for coffee. As long as it was a public place with gossipy people so there’d be a screaming headline the next day:
Drudge Meets Mystery Brunette
;)
