Favre expected to submit letter of reinstatement to NFL by Friday By Adam Schefter | NFL Network
During a telephone conversation Thursday with Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson, quarterback Brett Favre conveyed he is planning to return to the team and report to training camp this weekend.
If he follows through on his plans, Favre is expected to fax a letter seeking reinstatement to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as early as Friday, before the Packers report to camp on Saturday.
However, just because Favre is now planning to return to the Packers, that doesn't mean the saga is over. This is a story that has had so many twists and turns, it is conceivable it could change again.
At any point this summer, Favre still could decide to walk away from the game or Green Bay could decide to trade him. But for now, all indications are that Favre is going back to the Packers with the intention of spending this season with them.
There is plenty of smoothing over to be done, however that process already has kicked off. The conversation between Favre and Thompson was said to be cordial and professional, and the Packers recognize that they are a better team with their iconic quarterback on the roster.
Thompson even said during Thursday's annual shareholders meeting that families have disagreements, but they overcome them. Now the Packers and Favre are trying to do just that.
Well he says that today, but.................
schizo.
I don’t get it. Green Bay (the city, the fans, and the team) was good to Favre, and Favre was good right back. What the heck has happened all of the sudden? It’s beginning to impact my respect for both.
I dunno...he doesn’t seem to be getting any good advice. It’s painful to watch—even those of us who are not Packer fans still love this guy and hate to see his great career spiral down like this.
He’s a great qb and had a great career, but his actions are making him a parody of himself.
Maybe BHO should offer Brett the Veep job! They sound about the same don’t they!
He’ll be traded to Tampa Bay.
Who do they have for a QB?
Jeff Garcia? Old
Chris Simms? Broken
Luke McCown? Inexperienced
Brian Griese? Ineffective
Josh Johnson? John Henry’s son?
As I understand it Favre really wanted the Packers to pick up a star receiver from MN that became available, and voiced it loudly, the Packers decided against it, and then he basically stormed off in a huff and “retired” again.
The Packers were more than willing to let him sit out his contract and retire. Then as we got closer to preseason he decided he wanted to keep playing... so you had the drama that was the last few months.
I don’t fault the Packers. They gave it straight to Favre when he said this Spring he was considering retirement. He made his decision and the Packers accepted it, and went on from there. It was he who changed his mind and created the ongoing issue.
Favre = Drama Queen
Garcia is the same age as Farve. Signed last year to pretty big contract. Made the Pro Bowl(I think.)
Why would TB want Favre. Don’t see it.
Ha—true enough, except Favre has accomplished a LOT more than “the one who he’s been waiting for.”
LOL...very good point...touche’ ;-)
The guy is a competitor and the best qb of the past 15 years or so.
Why the hell would anybody criticize a guy for wanting to do what he does best?...
...Oh yeah, resentment and jealousy.
Ditto that. He should write a book about how to destroy ones own reputation.
No one has a problem with him wanting to play. What folks have a problem with is how he assured the Packers that he was done and then changed his mind in NFL seasonal terms at the last moment.
