The deal is that Farve is screwing the team if he comes back and wants to play on the packers since they spent the entire off-season preparing the team to play with the new quarterback, including who they drafted and who they signed as free agents. Thats a tougher situation for the packers to deal with than just welcoming him back with open arms.

They will also be screwed if he tries to go play to a division rival like the Vikings because if he demands one specific team that he’s going to play for, the viks are going to welcome him in, but want to give the packers nothing in return.

Now the best scenerio would be for him to go to a team outside the Packs division like the Tampa Bay Bucs or Washington Redskins, but given that fact that Farve still has an active contract with the Packers, the packers will expect something in return for him. The problem being Farve will only accept a team that would be playoff bound so then it limits the Packers negotiating position.

So right now we are in high drama stage as both parties jockey for position. I think a deal will get done, but the media and the NFL will want to hype all this drama for major effect. What I’m also worried about is whoever Farve does go to, the NFL is going to start wanting to dump sunday night and monday night games to try to get him in prime time as much as possible. A few teams are going to get screwed on this deal as well.
I honestly was quiet relieved to not have to listen to Madden confess his love for Brett Farve every minute during MNF games anymore. Oh well.........

Doing what he does best?... like throwing interceptions at critical times?

As a fan of the best team in the NFL, the NY FootBall Giants, I’m a huge farve fan. He layed down and gave Strahan the sack record. And more importantly he gave the Giants a huge gift in overtime ladt year. He’s good people, I say let him continue to throw interceptions in big games for the packers.

If he’s traded, he needs to go someplace warm. His loss in a frigid GB last year was proof he can not move in cold weather. It was pathetic to watch.

He’ll be the best backup QB since Steve Young.

As far as Favre being a drama queen . . . I've yet to see his side of the story, what he has to say. All I've seen is what is being "reported".
I thought GB had a real chance last year to make it to the SB. The team was that good. I always thought Brett was better than a one-SB-win kinda guy, he just didn't have a SB team around him. Now they do.

You mentioned some interesting things.
What isn’t talked about is his(favre’s) impact on the salary cap.
Doesn’t he have a multi-year contract left?
Now I can’t see TB wanting another 38 yr. old QB with a huge contract.
I believe Wash. is currently OVER their cap. They will need some big cuts. FWIW.

I don’t think he changed his mind at ‘the last moment.’ It was clear the Packers were looking to go in a different direction and I have nothing but sympathy for the position this has place Aaron Rodgers in, but really, if the man wants to play let him. That really should’nt be a moral conundrum for people.

Well, let me spell it out for you. He is loved and cherished here. Last winter he retired. Then he used his Packer issued cell phone to contact the QB coach and Head Coach of the hated Vikings. Then he said he wanted his release from the Packers to play elsewhere. They rightly said no, so now he is trying to stick it to the Packers and their fans by reporting so he can collect his multi-million $ salary.

He is losing respect in Wisconsin because it is now all about Brett, even his team won’t come to his defense. He is a prima donna now, and it is sad to see.

Tampa plays Dallas Oct.26. After last years game in Texas stadium, we’’ll see if he has a WHOLE year left in him.

I’m trying to keep an open mind. It seemed at the end of last year that the Packers indicated they were going in a new direction. If so, it made sense for Brett to retire rather than hang around as a 2nd-stringer, or be the starting QB in a new offense really geared to the next-in-line.

Maybe in the off-season some friends of his from the Vikings told him he’d be a sure starter there, and they’d love to have him. Maybe he decided that would be fun, and asked GB to let him go, and they said no. Maybe he shouldn’t ask, but in the end it is a career, and a paycheck, and a job, and to say the guy should not try to work because of a rivalry seems a bit odd.

Anyway, GB can only block him from going elsewhere if they keep him on the team. Brett didn’t write the rules. It’s not his fault. But if GB won’t let him play for the Vikings, he has two choices. He can just go back to being retired, forget that he might have another great year, might be able to get a superbowl ring, might make more money for his family.

Or he can go back and play for GB, and collect his salary, and hope he gets a fair chance to win the job of QB.

So if he wants to play more, he has no choice — he has to go back to GB, until they let him go.

Wasn’t he in tears when he made his retirement announcement on TV last winter? He should stick to his original decision. He is being a drama queen BIG TIME...

“He’ll be traded to Tampa Bay.”

God, I hope not!

“Who do they have for a QB?
Jeff Garcia? Old”

All Garcia has done for Tampa is win games, yet Gruden is treating him like a dog

“Chris Simms? Broken”
And he hates Gruden, too

“Luke McCown? Inexperienced”
Yes, but he has the most potential and in my estimation should be Tampa's future QB. Gruden (the genius) has yet to develop a QB he's drafted in Tampa

“Brian Griese? Ineffective”
And why is he back??? Oh, Gruden f***** him over, too.

“Josh Johnson? John Henry’s son?”
Who?

Farve is a very naive individual...based on everything he’s done so far. If all of this had been about him going to New Orleans or Oakland or Tampa Bay....the Packers truly wouldn’t care. But they knew from day one....it was the Vikings...and this was an effort to get fans from the Green Bay area to jump ship. I think the Packers did the right thing in calling his bluff...and I doubt seriously that the guy in good enough shape to earn anything beyond the number two quarterback. They knew this from day one of the episode. He won’t settle for number two....and thus will slide out of camp by the 3rd week (my humble bet).

Agree. I expect him to end up in TB but I don’t expect him to last long.

Favre is a great quarterback, but the media fawns over him a little too much and his flaws are often overlooked. For example, he’s also the career leader in interceptions as well. He had a great season last year, but the three seasons before then he was rather poor, including a season with 32 interceptions.
