The deal is that Farve is screwing the team if he comes back and wants to play on the packers since they spent the entire off-season preparing the team to play with the new quarterback, including who they drafted and who they signed as free agents. Thats a tougher situation for the packers to deal with than just welcoming him back with open arms.
They will also be screwed if he tries to go play to a division rival like the Vikings because if he demands one specific team that he’s going to play for, the viks are going to welcome him in, but want to give the packers nothing in return.
Now the best scenerio would be for him to go to a team outside the Packs division like the Tampa Bay Bucs or Washington Redskins, but given that fact that Farve still has an active contract with the Packers, the packers will expect something in return for him. The problem being Farve will only accept a team that would be playoff bound so then it limits the Packers negotiating position.
So right now we are in high drama stage as both parties jockey for position. I think a deal will get done, but the media and the NFL will want to hype all this drama for major effect. What I’m also worried about is whoever Farve does go to, the NFL is going to start wanting to dump sunday night and monday night games to try to get him in prime time as much as possible. A few teams are going to get screwed on this deal as well.
I honestly was quiet relieved to not have to listen to Madden confess his love for Brett Farve every minute during MNF games anymore. Oh well.........
You mentioned some interesting things.
What isn’t talked about is his(favre’s) impact on the salary cap.
Doesn’t he have a multi-year contract left?
Now I can’t see TB wanting another 38 yr. old QB with a huge contract.
I believe Wash. is currently OVER their cap. They will need some big cuts. FWIW.
