Well, let me spell it out for you. He is loved and cherished here. Last winter he retired. Then he used his Packer issued cell phone to contact the QB coach and Head Coach of the hated Vikings. Then he said he wanted his release from the Packers to play elsewhere. They rightly said no, so now he is trying to stick it to the Packers and their fans by reporting so he can collect his multi-million $ salary.

He is losing respect in Wisconsin because it is now all about Brett, even his team won’t come to his defense. He is a prima donna now, and it is sad to see.

I’m trying to keep an open mind. It seemed at the end of last year that the Packers indicated they were going in a new direction. If so, it made sense for Brett to retire rather than hang around as a 2nd-stringer, or be the starting QB in a new offense really geared to the next-in-line.

Maybe in the off-season some friends of his from the Vikings told him he’d be a sure starter there, and they’d love to have him. Maybe he decided that would be fun, and asked GB to let him go, and they said no. Maybe he shouldn’t ask, but in the end it is a career, and a paycheck, and a job, and to say the guy should not try to work because of a rivalry seems a bit odd.

Anyway, GB can only block him from going elsewhere if they keep him on the team. Brett didn’t write the rules. It’s not his fault. But if GB won’t let him play for the Vikings, he has two choices. He can just go back to being retired, forget that he might have another great year, might be able to get a superbowl ring, might make more money for his family.

Or he can go back and play for GB, and collect his salary, and hope he gets a fair chance to win the job of QB.

So if he wants to play more, he has no choice — he has to go back to GB, until they let him go.
