Ugggh I am livid. I just found out Google did a street view of my neighborhood, not only that they got me outside in the picture. They should be required by law to give forewarning that they are taking pictures in your neighborhood.
There is no law against photographing publicly visible locales.

Well, you can sue... They have very deep pockets.
Where you in your freeper jammies.. .when google took the picture?
I guess tht would give one time to comb one’s hair, ect. :)
They’ve been blurring out faces. I’m not sure if that’s automatically, in-time, or by request.
This I know, that is why I said I would have appreciated a little forewarning rather than “I am going to sue them!”. Either way it is rude. What If it had been at a time when I had a pile of junk in front my house for bulk trash pick up or during one of numerous improvement projects here lately at the homestead? I would be embarrassed at the world seeing a a normally nice looking house rather than a trashed up driveway.
I can see why you're sore about maybe having your home looking less-than-it's-best as the shot was taken, but you'd probably be the only one Googlezing your address anyhow.
It's a fun way to kill a half hour "walking" up your street and around the corner...
Yup. That’s what we need. More laws.
There aren’t enough meaningless, unenforceable laws on the books as it is, so why not a few more?
Dang caught me red handed! I swear it’s only for the articles that place has! I am smoking because WFBJr had such a refreshing article about modern conservatism that I needed to smoke to satisfy my body after such a satisfying read.
You are out in public when the picture was snapped. I don;t see that you have any privacy interest when you stand in public view.
So you dont mind if I show up unannounced taking pictures of your house?
Cool, you’re famous! I found my car on google street view. Unfortunately, it is parked outside the bank I was robbing.
Here is what they had to say:
To request removal of your image from Street View, you must demonstrate that you are the person shown in the panorama you would like removed. We will not take action if you are reporting on behalf of someone else (such as a friend, relative or stranger), except that you may report on behalf of your minor child. To show that you are the person in the image you would like removed, you must provide us with the information specified below. To expedite our ability to process your request, please use the following format on your verification form:
Provide your legal name.
Provide your e-mail address.
Provide the street view address of the Street View image you would like removed.
Include the sworn statement: “I declare, under penalty of perjury, that the information in this notification is accurate.”
Attach a clear, readable copy of a valid photo ID (e.g. driver’s license, national ID card, etc). If you are requesting removal of an image of a location, attach a copy of a document demonstrating your association with that location ( e.g. business card or letterhead).
Please e-mail your completed verification form, along with the necessary attachment, to maps-legal@google.com within 5 days. If you are unable to upload a copy of your photo ID electronically in an e-mail, you may also fax us a copy of your form and photo ID to (650) 887-0389.
We will temporarily remove the Street View image pending receipt of your ID verification. If we have not received a copy of your photo ID within 5 days, then we will restore the panorama back to Street View. Please note that we will investigate your complaint and take action as needed. We will not contact you unless we need more information to review your request. If you see that the panorama was not removed from Street View, it is likely that it did not meet our conditions for permanent removal.

The Google Team
Did I mention privacy interest? I said I would like a law requiring them to warn me of there impending pictures of me, and I am dead certain most people would prefer warning before some company comes out and takes a shot of your house and then posts it so the entire world can see.
Would I mind? Probably not. Taking pictures in public, from public property, or things viewable from said public property is perfectly legal.
In fact, if your county property tax and property records information is available online, there is a very strong chance the government has already posted pictures of your home online.
Yes google has done this for quite awhile. What’s bad is your local tax assessor may have pics of your home including your cars (license plate numbers) freely available to anyone that knows your address or name (easy to view online). Not to mention some even list your loan information. That feels like a total invasion of privacy.
Nonsense.
Say you are on vacation in NYC and a company is taking photos of street scenes. Should they have to notify the entire population of NYC, and any persons who may possibly be in NYC that day that their 'privacy' may be affected by possibly ending up in one of the photographs?
Come on.
Did you give those people advance warning you would be taking pictures that might include their home or them personally?
