The father of a 12-year-old girl who tried to keep a young man from groping his daughter at a popular Shakopee amusement park was seriously hurt late on July 4 after he was allegedly kicked and stomped by a group of men in an attack police called "brutal."
The attack on the unnamed man, which happened just outside Valleyfair Amusement Park, resulted in charges against at least six Twin Cities-area men. They were among several people the initial attacker called on his cell phone to summon them to join the assault.
The group beat up the father as his wife and daughter looked on, police said. The man was seriously injured and unconscious when police arrived.
"We see assaults, but that's brutal," Shakopee police Sgt. Jay Arras said.
Arras said the man and his family were leaving Valleyfair shortly before midnight on July 4 when a man "tried to grab the 12-year-old girl in a sexual manner" near the park exit, the father later told police.

that’s the exact attitude that guy this guy a beatdown, and gets people mugged, beaten and killed everyday. people don’t stand up and help to stop these actions.
so yes, absolutely she should have jumped in. she’s extremely lucky they didn’t turn on her next.
if she really wanted to protect, she should have either helped beatdown the thugs or at least high tailed it out of there while calling in help. standing and watching is inexcusable.

What is this, the movies? In real life, an unarmed woman is unlikely to be able to take on 6 violent thugs.
or at least high tailed it out of there while calling in help.
She may have been in shock- how many people are exposed to violence on a regular basis? Let alone, a group of thugs beating your husband nearly to death after he defends your young daugther from being molested? We don't know whether she had the ability to reach a phone.
Valleyfair was a beautiful park when it first opened in the 70s. It had a turn of the century theme, complete with ragtime music. It was clean, the food prices were reasonable and it was a good value.
I took my family there four years ago. The place was dirty, the food was horrible and way overpriced. The theme had been replaced with a rock-n-roll thrill ride park. The place was crawling with under-dressed teenagers groping each other in public, smoking, jumping lines, etc.
I would judge that Valleyfair has deliberately chosen to cater to teenagers rather than families. Valleyfair has created an environment where such an attack becomes more likely.
And then 'Devondre' how dey got caught!
Hey Jesse, these are the “nuts” you should be targeting...
I don’t think it’s healthy to go off on some CCW fantasy about blasting these people. It rarely turns out to happen that way. These type of incidents are increasing everywhere and nothing is being done.
Sure it feels good to sit here on the board and talk about how we all would have blasted them. It’s not reality though.
We need to stay focused on what is real and realize that criminal behavior is not being punished in this country in an effective way, “unless you defend yourself with a weapon” then you get the book thrown at you and you lose your life’s savings defending yourself.
The civlized are paralyzed. This is bad.
You’re reading way too much into this. These guys are a street gang. They are into prostitution, and likely selling drugs etc.. One of the gang members was challenged by someone who dared to stand up to him. The gang reacted as gangs do in these situations, with violence.
I would shoot them in public or private, and I would not care what others called me or thought of it as long as I was able to protect and save my own in such circumstances.
Wardaddy is spot on. This kind of behavior happens all the time but often isn’t reported because it’s deemed not PC. It’s a CIVIL RIGHT for these youths to be able to grope and attack don’t you know? And there really isn’t a damn thing we can do about it except be sheep.
So, instead we should sit around and wail loudly about the state of the failed court systems?
The more you think about what should have been done, the more prepared you will be if it ever happens to you.
Last I heard, they were posted. Probably not in compliance, but posted, nonetheless.
That’s the thing if people joined in to stop these thugs then it would have been portrayed by the media as a bunch of whites trying to attack 6 impoverished youths who didn’t know any better because life has been “hard” for them.
-all that for $250?
“Sure it feels good to sit here on the board and talk about how we all would have blasted them. Its not reality though.”
Oh yes...it is reality! If we do as you seem to suggest and wait for our elected representatives or do-nothing law enforcement system to deal with the issues, then nothing will happen. My hope is that more folks start taking responsibility for their own safety...sometimes in the most drastic of ways.
That will be a message that these animals will hear.
Militant
who said anything about being civilized?
i’m talking about standing up and protecting your family. this isn’t a duel, its not a fair fight. this is your family being attacked. watching your husband getting beat down and not either helping or removing your child from the situation is irresponsible and does nothing to protect your child.
they could have been next.
That’s what I say to myself, raygun. They keep propagating the stereotype.
Please elaborate.
Plus ... youll be labeled a racist or worse for shooting at these poor youths who had a hard life.
At least you would be alive. "Dead" is not a label I want to deal with.
Years ago, Jeff Cooper delineated the “Color Code” and the “Principles of Personal Defense” in an effort to provide us with a logical model for one’s thinking on the subject of mental preparedness.
Layer One: Nonattendance. The best way to handle any potentially injurious encounter is:
Don’t be there. Arrange to be somewhere else. Don’t go to stupid places. Don’t associate with stupid people. Don’t do stupid things. This is the advice I give to all students of defensive firearms. Winning a gunfight, or any other potentially injurious encounter, is financially and emotionally burdensome. The aftermath will become your full-time job for weeks or months afterward, and you will quickly grow weary of writing checks to lawyer(s). It is, of course, better than being dead or suffering a permanently disfiguring or disabling injury, but the “penalty” for successfully fighting for your life is still formidable.
Crowds of any kind, particularly those with an agenda, such as political rallies, demonstrations, picket lines, etc are good examples of “stupid places.” Any crowd with a high collective energy level harbors potential catastrophe. To a lesser degree, bank buildings, hospital emergency rooms, airports, government buildings, and bars (particularly crowded ones) fall into the same category. All should be avoided. When they can’t be avoided, we should make it a practice to spend only the minimum time necessary there and then quickly get out.
“A superior gunman is best defined as one who uses his superior judgment in order to keep himself out of situations that would require the use of his superior skills.”
(From “Layers of Response” by John Farnam)
Not saying this guy had any other option, but it is something to consider. Especially if you’re carrying where it is prohibited.
