They can say all they want about this guy but I have a lot of respect for him after reading about a trip he made to visit some kid dying of cancer. He could have sent a card or ask a student to stop by but instead he went on his own and made the boy’s day.
There, I fixed that typo the reporter made.
Coach Weis is a class act, which is a far cry from some of the trash coming out of the NCAA. He's strict on his players, strongly stresses academics, and does not put up with his players slacking off in the classroom. I'm quite confident that the "7th Floor Crew" out of Miami didn't have that leadership, and I promise you that Weis wouldn't put up with his players representing the college like that.
And I'll close by stressing my appreciation for him visiting the troops in the Middle East. It shows his respect for the men and women serving our country.
Someone willing to be of service to others while addressing his own faults and trying his best to be a father is a MAN.
Agreed.
Have you met his brothers, Bud and Er?
That’s what I was thinking, “unpopular firing”, with who? Even the students wanted him gone.
To 95% of sports journalists, Willingham’s firing was controversial - for no other reason than his skin color.
I’m surprised that the onslaught of negative articles on Weiss isn’t bigger, but give them time.
Poppycock. I know it’s hard to believe, but most people don’t give a darn about Weiss, one way or the other.
ND is irrelevent in the CFB world anymore. How can you hate them or Weiss?
I don’t know Weis, but know someone who is quite close to him. Says Weis is a great guy. FWIW.

That’s probably because they require their players to show up for class once in a while. I think they even require them to be able to read God forbid.
The headline and the premise for the story are a bit overblown, to be sure. When Notre Dame reclaims a poll ranking in the top 10, we'll see a resurgence of praise for, and enmity toward, Weis.
I agree.
Considering he embarrassed ND far more than Willingham ever could have. They only played two good teams last year and got slaughtered by both, while being beat by virtually everyone else.
The guy may have been a good offensive co-ordinator, but he's a terrible head coach. Just terrible.
Of course the biggest difference is that Weiss is a proven elite coach and Willingham never was. He was mediocre wherever he went. The ND fans have already turned on Weiss, which is natural for ND. One more year like last and the signs will be on campus and will be earned.
But that is not really the point of my post lol. The criticism of Willingham was earned but the resulting racist critique of the critics is the point.
Actually Willingham coached a team that quit on the field against Syracuse. Guys were walking instead of running. They just quit. When was the last time you saw a coach miss a touchdown by an opposing team because he was still in the crapper? The program was going down hill and fast.
They say you should be able to judge a coach after three years. For Weis it should be four years. He refused to recruit when first hired because he was committed to something called the Super Bowl. He believed he owed it to the Patriots. Bt the time the Super Bowl was over most prospects had already committed. Add that to the fact Wilingham really didn’t care to recruit and you can understand why things went south.
You think he might have done better his third year, but no.....he gave ND perhaps the worst year in the past fifty. And even then they played only two good teams, which blew them out, the rest being pikers. Plus he lost to most of them.
Sorry, this is a very bad head coach for a college team with the history and recruiting power of ND.
And I explained why all that happened. They hired a coach who could not do his job, did not like to recruit, and could only win when he is surrounded by good coaches. He’s really doing a great job at Washington. I think ND’s schedule is usually very tough. They play USC, Michigan, Michigan State every year and toss in teams like Florida State, Tennesse, Miami, Oklahome, Texas. There first game of the year is almost always Michigan. Moat schools start off with a sure winner such as Bowling Green, Toledo etc.
