Whenever I’m faced with people who seem to have given up on themselves, I remind them that fear is paralyzing, and that the only way to get past it is to move beyond it. In spite of it.

Being able to confront their weaknesses and turn them into strengths is something they will be able to use all their lives. You’re doing a great job with your kids!

Thanks! Now that Anoreth is enrolled in college, I’m feeling pretty positively, after all the grousing from certain Mothers we could mention for the last 13 years. What’s a little remedial algebra? She’s only 17, anyway.

I passed algebra when I was 15, just as my brain was about to short-circuit.

She’ll do just fine! The main thing is that you have a rapport with her, and with that, she can do anything she tries!

She also knows, I’m sure, that there is no “failure:” There are only Lessons!

Anoreth has taken algebra and learned it, but hasn’t managed to do well at it on tests. Not on the SAT, and not on the community college placement test. I expect she will find the course easy enough, and I hope a different perspective on the subject will help her to learn to use it more effectively in problem-solving.

A popular line around here is, “Well, that was a Learning Experience!”

That’s OK. For the first couple of hours, your mind will be on vacation, anyway! ;o]

Or the first couple of days...

That's how long it's going to take just to get through my e-mail. *\:-(

Intended to get back here sooner, but got tied up with upgrading the Linux box to the latest version of Kubuntu Linux. Very nice, so far...

The difference is that once the damage by the volcanoes has been done, the earth begins to heal itself and reverse the damage. Man is WAY behind in that!

I dunno. Remember when runaway smog, acid rain and radiation from microwave ovens was going to kill us all? The river that caught fire?

That river was in my former hometown of Cleveland, OH.

The Cuyahoga, if I remember correctly. Did it damage a bridge in the process? I don't recall...

In any event, Lake Erie was considered hopelessly polluted back then. I gather folks are fishing in it again.

I wasn’t around at the time but both the river and lake are as polluted as ever.

I would have answered you sooner, but...

We’ve got a drunk exhibitionist here who was taking his little dog for a walk yesterday, and had a siezure, fell, and banged himself up pretty badly.

I called 911, but it was a good 15 minutes before they got here; I was given his keys and asked to watch his little dog. The manager isn’t here on weekends, so I had to wait until today before I could get information from him about his kinfolk. Sheesh!

His poor little dog is so lonely for him.

At least it's only for a short time.

I'm caught in the middle of updating the new machine, updating the blog, and several other things all at once... *\:-|

The hospital isn’t giving me any info, of course, but when I talked to him he said they were still running tests. I don’t think he’ll be out for another day or two.

I’m not too worried about the little dog. She’s lonely, but she’s a good little dog. I just needed to know how long I was going to baby-sit.

The monsoons are here. Off and on. Which is not my idea of fun, but they should only last another 3-4 weeks. I hope. :o]

So how was the bacashun?
