Awe, that sucks. He was a giant in his field.
I hosted an online interview with him on CompuServe in the 90s and we chatted a bit before and after it. What a loss ;(
Stan was The Man...thoughts and prayers to his family.
Oh man...that’s terrible...what a loss. I’ve always strongly admired his work. RIP, sir.
RIP from a big fan.
I ranked this man next to Ray Harryhausen and the Westmore family as one of my lifelong idols’heroes for the sheer genius and delight he provided in the land of entertainment. Taken far too soon.

I huge Stan Winston fan here, he will be missed. RIP, and prayers to his family.
Oh, man. I just “heard” about his death. I didn’t even know he was ill. Seeing him in several DVD interviews, he seemed so personable and eager to discuss his own, and the works of others, in the field of special effects. The special edition DVD of John Carpenter’s The Thing comes to mind. In the “Terror Takes Shape” documentary, Mr. Winston provides some interesting insight in the creation of the morphing alien, but co-special effects artist Rob Bottin steals the show with his hilarious stories and eccentric wit. Definitely a must-buy for all fans of the art of special effects.
