'American Idol' winner is embodiment of the overwhelming majority of people in this country, whom I will never understand
To put it in much clearer terms: I do not understand the phenomenon of David Cook because David Cook is pretty much everything I am not. He is a former frat guy turned bartender, the kind of guy who willingly chooses to perform songs by Switchfoot and Collective Soul and proudly proclaims his undying affection for Our Lady Peace. He sings in an earnest, gruff, decidedly weathered voice, not unlike the kind you hear all over rock radio or in a Chevy Truck commercial. If you squint funny, he looks a whole lot like Chris Daughtry, only with more hair. He has probably never cared what a blog has to say (if he's ever read one), and he likely still has an AOL e-mail address. He is a Kansas City Royals fan.
He is a Rock-and-Roll Red State. He is Rolling Thunder across the Fruited Plains. He is SUVs and flag-waving and the American Dream. He is basically the living, breathing embodiment of the overwhelming majority of people in this country, whom I do not, cannot and let's face it will not understand. Not ever. He makes me realize just how detached I am with reality and how unimportant I am. And that makes me sort of hate myself. And this country. Sort of.
Let me point out ... I mean the concept of him, not the actual man. Cook seems nice enough. He has cool facial hair, and he did a killer job on Lionel Richie's "Hello." But it's what he means as a whole the ideals and social forces he represents that frustrate and, well, sort of terrify me.

Hi Jonny. Thanks for pinging me to this fun thread. Sometimes, the more putrid a Leftist's bile, the funnier they are, albeit unintentionally. In Montgomery's case, maybe the problem is that he's taken too much...ummm..."medication" in his life. :)
What I find so interesting about the current Leftist political culture is that they are ranting venomously from the pulpit to academia to Congress, all the way to an MTV music critic's column. Yet these are the people whose "savior" is supposed to unify us all in one big kumbaya moment. Blah!
OMGosh, I am listening right now. I just bought it. The Cookie is SMOKING HOT.
Well, let me explain it to him.
On Idol, David Cook showed up with what looked like grungy hair, a blank puffy face, a stupid "feather" of red paint in his forelock, and zero presence. His voice was not bad.
Over a very short time, the rough diamond began to shine through. He had intelligence. He had heart and he started to pour it into his songs. His voice was smoky rich. He made that huge point to show the orange rubber bracelet he wore for the tiny little girl undergoing cancer treatments. He broke down when his very ill brother was able to be flown to L.A. to see him perform. He was gracious to all of his fellow contestants. He was funny. He was sweet. His face is not blank at all: now it's handsome with twinkles in his eyes and a Grinchlike smile across his lips.
And he really is good: great voice and fun to watch. I'm listening to him right now and I look forward to hearing more. He knows how to give 100% of himself when performing. And he's a nice guy.
What did you just buy? His victory song?
Yeah! There doesn’t seem to be anything else to buy. But even that is good.
I’m not knowledgeable about downloading music, but, is there a way to record off the youtube videos?
Nice post and well said, but the use of reason is lost on people like Montgomery. :)
Grin...and global warming, and the condition of all African countries, and not cleaning up after the latest disaster somewhere, and not spending enough on education, and, well, every cotton-picking little thing we expect of our presidents these days. Now it's all Cookie's fault. ;-)
Yep. And the cost of health insurance. That’s on him, too.
You're sadly asking the wrong person. I am sure you could, but I don't know how. Also, would the quality be any good? Maybe someone else will see this and know.
Good thing I like Cookie and his music. Otherwise I might just have to write a backstabbing tell-all book about him. ;-)
I think he only CARES about himself and how he can slam ANYONE who made it. Don't think he wouldn't have slammed Josiah, the gay Ish boy, the Tat Chick, or Monchichi if they'd won.
You were right in your later posts. And so was a guy called Aesop a couple thou years ago who penned a little fable about Sour Grapes.
But, but, here's the GREAT thing about that. Dontchaknow, he can make Everything Better again. By adding a Prius to his fleet of planes, trains, and automobiles, and of course dong ONE of his metamillion$ concerts for a Save Our Precious Carbon charity, then Cookie will have DONE something.
Doesn't this stupid MTV writer BELEEEVE in the Stars Giving Back as the solutions to all the world's problems? ;)
Turning them into audio recordings is more involved - you would need to download a converter that could turn the .FLV video file into an MP3. There is a link on the KeepVid site.
Thank you!
No, I missed that part--LOL!! Looks like Mr. Montgomery picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue :)
LOL--yeah, after reading more of his paranoid article, I'd say that's very likely :)
... it looked like Michael Johns was giving Cook the finger :)
