I thought the bees were all dying due to that syndrome, what was it? Cumulative Hive Destruction? ... it had some fancy name that sounded really awesome ..

Refresh my memory, I don’t remember being scared of that. Unfortunately I slumbered away in blissful ignorance, not realizing my pending destruction was nigh!

If I remember correctly, the natural cycle of ozone narrowed over the pole and it fizzled out as an issue, though they like to claim their silly little ban on freon did it.

My dad was doing some consulting work for a local apple growers/juice co-op that supplied a regional grocery chain when that Alar thing hit. Since they didn’t use the chemical in their orchards, he had them print “Alar Free” stickers to slap on the bottles before boxing them.
For a couple of weeks they were the #1 selling juice in those stores.

Oh, it was the most wonderfull thing! Profitable, extravagantly expensive. I would ask my plant customers “why are you renting a generator. You know nothing will come of it right? They would tell me that if they were the only plant manager in the company who did not rent a back up generator for the plant and they lost production time they would be fired on the spot. Besides that, the money was budgeted so what the heck! That was a good time had by all.

Your profile sez New Meeheeco. Shouldn't you be more worried about Reconquista then you are about AGW and the ozone hole? (If Bush and McCain have their way, you will be living en Nuevo Meeheeco.)

When the communist USSR was threatening to nuke us the newspapers had no problem selling circulation. Few readers had time to get involved in kook scares. That was a simpler time.
