Congratulations to the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins!
Two great teams who have earned the chance to hoist Lord Stanley's Cup!
There are a multitude of stories on the NHL website - http://www.nhl.com/
And on the Red Wings website - http://redwings.nhl.com/
And on the Penguins website - http://penguins.nhl.com/
This promises to be one of the greatest series in NHL history! Something for those who don't usually watch!
So spread the word, and do your part to recruit a new fan or two!
Fantastic. I have at least another evening of putting off work in the garage. Yes!
109.57 that’s #2 on your list.
I guess it’s gonna take 7 games for the Wings to take the Cup in HOCKEYTOWN USA!!!
Hope you all caught Natalie Lamieux boobs bouncing after the win. She is beauiful.
I will be in the Burgh for the next game. I have an extra $200. Think I will get in?
The only way to get them is to kidnap a season ticket holder. My brother (Well known local coach and many connections to the Penguins) didn’t even ask his connections. ;-(
My wife’s from Lebanon and Hershey. When we lived in Conn, we’d go to the games in Springfield Mass, she was the only one in the rink rooting for the Bears.
Remember when the Yankees outscored the Pirates in the 60's series but the Pirates won? I feel that coming on here with this series.
Honestly, Detroit dominated so much tonight, I am amazed. As a true hockey person, I don't see it happening.
Go Wings!
Heluva game last night. The Wings owned em most of the game. The Pens won because of their goaler........and a little defensive error by the Wings in the first period.
Here's hoping they can carry the momentum back to the ‘Burgh!
nothing beats a called shot to win it in triple ot
That's when I had to go to bed. This evening reminded me of that 5 OT game between the Pens-flyers from 2000. But I taped it and I'm sure it will on NHL Network a few times. Glad the Pens won. We get more hockey tomorrow night. BTW Did anyone hear about Tiger Woods comments about how no body watches hockey anymore.
Thanks for your concern, friend.
I’m feeling better, and last night’s game was good medicine! ;^)
—Medical research gets cupfuls of aid from Lemieux Foundation—
Stanley Cup fever has put more than $100,000 into cancer and neonatal research, courtesy of a deal among the Penguins, Mellon Arena operator SMG and the Mario Lemieux Foundation.
During away games of the final, the team offered fans a chance to watch on the Jumbotron for $5, with proceeds going to the foundation.
A Penguins official couldn’t be reached for comment, but a team press release said more than 23,000 people attended the first two away games — which would bring in at least $115,000. The arena has room for about 17,000 spectators and was open Monday night for Game 5, played in Detroit.
Jay Roberts, general manager of SMG, said he hasn’t discussed details with Penguins management but the idea was that food and drink sales during the games would pay the arena’s operating costs.
“Other than the taxes, that whole five bucks is going to the Lemieux Foundation,” he said.
The general admission tickets are subject to Pittsburgh’s 5 percent amusement tax.
Nancy Angus, the Lemieux Foundation’s director, said most of the foundation’s money goes to the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, which is part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Hockey legend Mario Lemieux started the foundation in 1993 when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease. The foundation also awards research grants to other centers.
The foundation added the Austin Lemieux Neonatal Research Project when Lemieux’s son was born prematurely. The neonatal grant supports research at Magee-Womens Hospital in Oakland.
Angus said the Penguins haven’t told her how much money the foundation should expect to receive from the Stanley Cup final, but it welcomes the help.
“The Penguins have been so great to us. We’ve been very fortunate,” she said.
Roberts said the Penguins and SMG wouldn’t have figures to report until a week or so after the hockey season ends.
“The good news is the people who came the first night ate a lot,” he said.
I’ll be watching from the comfort of my home, thanks!
It’s interesting that you’ve conceded Game 6 to the Penguins already.
Honestly, I had already accepted that the Pens would lose at the “one minute left in the game” announcement.
Now, it appears that anything can happen, and the younger Penguins have a great chance of recovering from the 6 period marathon.
Either way, it’s been a hell of a season, and an awesome Finals!
Wadda’ ya’ say, let's compromise and bet a case of Yengling on the CUP.
They are out of their minds what they want $ to attend the next game. I just can't afford that. Prices ranging over $300 and up now.
I think I told you I was the official scorer for 7 years for the early Pens. Got the job by default from working the Pitt and Duquesne bBall games. Now I know nobody and they say "You are Who".
I hear you.
$300 is cheap nowadays.
I’ll stick with my big screen.
Food is cheaper, no gas or travel costs and I get a much shorter line to the bathroom!
Ying Ling? YUCK!
I may be from PA but that doesn’t mean I have bad taste in beer!
Make mine Canadian!
