The airport serving the southern coastal city of Kristiansand wasn't among those hit by Norway's recent airport strike, but it was nonetheless disrupted on Tuesday – by a moose running along the runway. A moose almost seemed ready for take-off at Kristiansand's airport on Tuesday.
Airport workers assigned to precisely those functions held by striking colleagues at other airports had to scramble to get the moose away from the runway at Kristiansand’s airport at Kjevik.
The moose "looked a bit panicky, and I can understand that very well," Rune Solnørdal, who managed to snap a few photos of the galloping moose, told the web site for Kristiansand newspaper Fædrelandsvennen.
"The last time I saw it, it was running for the tower," he added.
Jon Endresen, in charge of emergency operations at Kristiansand for civil aviation authority Avinor, said his staff formed a sort of human fence, and then managed to steer the moose onto the other side of the real fence bordering the runway.
The late afternoon incident could have caused major problems for aircraft taking off or landing. Luckily, Endresen noted, no flights were arriving or departing exactly when the moose drama played out.
"We had to get the moose out of the runway area in one way or another, men luckily we didn't have to shoot it," said Endresen.

We can't blame it on the strike. There's been a very serious problem with møøsecommunication from the tower traffic controllers at that airport for a long time.
