I have come to the sad conclusion that President Bush is a Punk on the World stage. If ever a US President deserved that term, it is George W. Bush.
In case you haven't been keeping up with current events, the leader of the free world made a special trip over to Saudi Arabia recently to ask them to increase oil production. They said no, Bush left with hat in hand.
While some may see this as some sort of diplomatic effort to reduce the price at our pumps, I see it as surrender to the OPEC tyrants.
This is the United States of America President that was essentially beggin for sandrats to give the world more oil.
I don't know about you, but I'm done with this man and will forever call his time in the Oval Office the PUNK presidency. I acknowledge his WOT, but the DefSec and the Generals make that happen and they are doing better with the surge. The President, along with the StateSec make foreign policy and it has been a disaster. PUNKED!
Of course it does. But who has the bully pulpit to convince Congress regarding the future general welfare of the Nation rather than environmental special interest groups? Bush has been missing in action on our inane and insane energy policies. NOW, at the end of his second term he talks about vetoing the AG bill, which we all know is veto proof - so does he. Where has he been? Oh yeah, mooching and holding hands with the Saudis. Special.

Bush admitted there would be no increase in production from the Saudis. They said the same thing. It was a failed mission that made the US look weak and needy. Bad move.
Yes, I believe think that. But again, who has had the bully pulpit and how many years did Bush have a Republican Congress to deal with this?
While I understand he was mostly focused on the WOT, he has department heads to advise him of different matters. There is no excuse. He has been Punked by the Saudis and the other oil producers. There is no getting around it. Look at your gas pump. .
Yes, what the hell are we doing giving aid to the rich Saudi terrorist breeding monarchy? Drill, drill, drill.
Certainly the Bush administration is in great need of the advice of a geo-political genius such as yourself. Why don’t you call them tomorrow and offer them your services? Then we can expect a massive increase in OPEC production in about a week, two tops.

My point is everything is not always as it seems.
And Bush isn't as stupid as you may think.
Ya know, that's probably one of the best questions I've ever seen regarding the oil issue. Unfortunately, I don't think we have anything other military weapons, and we know how that works. Weapons sales are the life-blood of the military complex and we need that to keep out own factories going to defend ourselves. Although come to think of it, GE et al, could probably find other friendly countries to sell to.
Hmmm, that's really worth thinking about. Not being an expert on weapons manufacturing and distribution, I would still think that maybe we don't have to sell as much to Saudi Arabia. But then, there is always the arguement that if we don't provide the weapons, Russia or someone else will that we can't monitor.
Plus, we can always cut off the small amount of aid we give them - about 2.5 million. Doubt that would have much impact.
Not in today's political climate. A filibuster proof 60 is the majority not 51.
Because he has the biggest microphone and the most power in DC. He's pretty much ignored this growing issue that is hurting everyone and will only get worse. He could have simply voided some of clinton's Executive Orders and vetoed earlier pork-laden energy bills. There is alot the Executive Officer of the US can do.
And while I agree with the WOT execution, he does have a Cabinet that deal with domestic matters. Apparently, he has not had the foresight to even start our independence from ME oil. There is something very wrong with his perspective.

Not drilling in ANWR, a known reserve just waiting.
Not reopening the 62 billion tons of environmentally safe low-sulfur clean coal in Utah.
Not opening the entire east AND west coast to exploration and drilling.
Not assisting the technology to drill the Middle Bakken.
Not ordering the construction of 50 new nuke generation plants
But what is he doing? Why, he is telling us to “change our habits.” Well, I used to make it a habit to get up and go vote for Republicans. Perhaps I will change that habit.
What's untrue? Did Bush go to Saudi Arabia to plea for more oil production or did he not? In case you were sleeping, it was in ALL the media. King Abdullah said no - Bush got punked. The World is laughing at us because of this.
Great post, I heartily agree. Even the NYT admitted Hussein was 1 year away from producing the bomb but it gets =no where= in the MSM who still stick with the “No WMDs -Bush Lied” claptrop.
Why don’t you go back to DU idiot.
Seems to me had Bush not formally asked the Saudis to up production, lots of people would be clamoring for him to do just that.

There’s no way anyone could demand them to do so, so what do you suggest now? Is it your role to simply declare him a fool? Do you have any alternatives to suggest? Should he make them produce more? He could no more do that than make Congress drill in ANWR.
So what say you? What should he have done or, better yet, what should he do now?
