the Dollar Store is where old merchandise goes to die. It’s stuff the manufacturers couldn’t sell or had laying around the warehouse or even found in a warehouse somewhere.

That is how Walmart got its start with low pricing in its earliest days. They purchased close-out, discontinued, insurance sales, and seconds merchandise in bulk at pennies on the dollar and redistributed it to the stores. In those early days, it was not uncommon to find the Walmart label stuck over the label of the original store.

My point was that the bowl he bought may have been made by a company that has been out of business for the past decade.
