Thanks for the link.
I downloaded the current version of VMWare Player, but after reading that link you provided, I decided I’m not ready to put my PC in a “Caution” or “Dangerous” position. I’ll just limp along for now.
While I’m up to creating a dual boot situation, I’m not familiar with Linux to run commands without a major infusion of knowledge. That’s one part of Linux I hate.
Again, thanks for the link, but I’m taking the “cautious” way out.
I rolled the dice on the first day, and my XP is good.
Good move.....don’t jeopardize an already hazardous situation.....
You might check a free little program called MobaLiveCD Emulator that I ran across last week.
http://mobalivecd.mobatek.net/en/
It is a standalone that creates a vmware-type block to load any LiveCD ISO.
[Note: It takes a while for an ISO to load, so be patient.]
I have tried it with several Linux LiveCD versions.
“This error message is brought to you by the fine folks at Microsoft, who are just trying to keep their jobs from going overseas.”............
I can run my Live CD now in Windows if I want to. But that’s just an emulation of Ubuntu; not the whole package.
I don’t think I’m ready or prepared to do a virtual anything based on what I read on that link.
Does SP3 support DirectX 10? I heard that microsoft said that they would make DX10 support available for XP.
ROFL! Would you have known that was cryptic if they didn’t tell you? Well at least you know it’s not your fault :P
(BTW, how do you attach a picture?)
I finally was able to dig up a copy of an old graphical plotting application that ran on Windows 95 and was able to get it to run well on Vista. All of the later versions of the app couldn’t get past Vista security to install correctly. It seems odd to go back from version 8.0 to version 4.0 on this app and lose a few features, but at least it works! I’m now looking for more Win95 software that is Vista compatible.
Congratulations, but why do you think we care?
Have you tried installing VMware on your system? You can download VMWare server for Linux at no cost from VMware. You might give it a try.

FReepers are first rate when it comes to computer knowledge and help. We SHARE experiences, problems and solutions. Therefore, I care about this FReepers experience with XP3. Your comment was snotty, childish and out of bounds.
I’ve looked at VMWare. Based on a link provided upthread, It looks like a fairly dangerous installation. I’m frankly not prepared to hazard my PC for something as pie-in-the-sky as this.
I’ve downloaded VirtualBox and have tried that. I can get a CD of Linux Mint to boot, but can’t get a CD of Windows XP to boot. And again, the directions I’ve found for booting off a Windows partition are all to questionable.
But, thanks for the information.
Mark
I have Ubuntu 7.10 and Windows XP SP2 on separate partitions. They run alright although both are a little slow at startup.
The only reason I was looking at a virtual desktop is to preclude having to go from one to another when I want to run my seldom Windows apps.
but the installation routine as describe for VMWare was very cautionary and I don’t need to upset anything. So I’ve backed off. And VirtualBox is NOT loading Windows XP even off a disk. So, I’m back to square one and happy but frustrated.
Windows XP Service Pack 3 seems to run quite well but the installation from download through Windows Update to the full installation took over an hour! And that’s with the update file only 66 MB in size.
Has anyone running IE6 taken the download yet? If so did it put in IE7 as part of the Service Pack? Also one article I read said the Address Bar would be deleted as well.
Ubuntu??
An OS that can’t even run a mouse?
I don’t think so, Tim.
Nevermind I found the answer here. http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9083318 Evidently if you're running IE 6 when you download SP3 you're OK. However if you are running IE7 and do the download it locks out deleting IE7 after the SP3 download. If you want to retain the capability to uninstall IE-7 then uninstall it it before the SP3 download.
Address bar only goes away when hitting F11.
It acts like viewing a photo in Windows Image viewer,
I like a full view of photos, etc.
