As of this morning, I have joined the Mosin Nagant club! (I feel like a kid with a new toy!)
Model: M91/30
Country: Russia
Armory: Izhevsk
Date of Mfr: 1942
Caliber: 7.62 x 54R
Overall, I would rate this weapon as "very good" condition. There are a few minor nicks in the woodwork, no cracks. Serial numbers on the receiver, bolt, butt plate, and trap door all match. The rifling in the barrel appears to be in excellent condition.
But wait! There's more! Unbeknownst to me, it came with a complete set off accessories! Sling and dog collars, bayonet, cleaner/oil canteen, bolt tool, cleaning rod tools, and a set of ammo pouches.
Price: $79.99 !!!!!
(I joked with the guy at the counter that 4 boxes of Wolf Gold ammo would cost more than the rifle.)
As a mechanical engineering oriented guy, the action is a thing of simplicity and beauty. Overall, I'd say the rifle is damn near butt-ugly. But, from what my research on the web indicates, these things are real tack-drivers.
I am SO looking forward to taking it to the range tomorrow!
I own one as well. I don’t know about it being a tack driver, but the rifle certainly drove a few German soldiers into the hole.
I just got a PU Sniper 91/30 last week.
It wasn't until I started researching Mosins on the web that I learned they are so popular.
That is cheap!
And brass, too!
That web link I posted has some neat stories and I really like the cat sneeze loads :>)
That guy really knows his re-loading stuff on military arms.
Got Three, An original - made by Westinghouse - Yes, Westinghouse, in 1915; Then the mid length and finally the shorty with folding bayonet.
Buy ammo by the case, much cheaper.
Unfortunately he passed away last year. His polital views would have made him a FReeper for sure.
I shoot 90 grain cast lead in my Moisin. Very quiet!
Some dude stole your KGB rifle.
I got mine for Valentine’s Day from DH a couple of years ago. Nothing says I Love You like a Russian Sniper Rifle!
Nah, mine is pre-KGB.
LOL!
(I’ll have to try that on my DW. I’ve got the kids shooting now and she’s picking up interest.)
It might work! Have her go to a Becoming an Outdoors Woman seminar sometime; that’s what got me hooked. Although I learned I can’t hit the broad side of a barn with a shotgun. The poor man teaching the class kept telling me, “Don’t aim, just point.” And, “It only takes 3 pellets to break a clay.” Ah well, I prefer rifles and handguns.
We have two here.
Hubby picked up this Swedish Mauser a couple of days ago. Niiice.
This is what he carries in his truck. His personal favorite of all the weapons we own.
Thanks for starting this gun thread. They have been few and far between lately. :)
Been waiting for a gun thread, I found out that Detonics is back in business after being bought up by “Double Nickel” some time ago.
News is that they are going to soon announce a brand new 1911 pistol that they claim is more advanced than anything out there now. We’ll see.
I have a detonics 9-11-01 model and it is one heck of a pistol. Just sent it in to Novak sights to have a Novak fiber optic sight installed.
Tom Gresham may talk about Detonics today on his “Gun Talk” radio show.
Anyone interested go here for where to listen.

Does photobucket now consider guns taboo to have on their site?
