Hmmm... Though, I’m a bit more optimistic. I see this as a fairly significant win.
Scalia’s opinion tightly nailed down a few key variables. The individual right of course, but he also micely marries the “keep” (own) concept and the “bear” (carry) concept in defining the essence of the right to self-preservation. While the Heller suit was specifically about his desire to have a gun at home, the opinion went further than the findings to the right to defend yourself not merely at home but in public.
One thing that will work in our favor (I think) is that we now have a fine experiment underway in DC. After 32 years of the strictest gun control and the highest crime rates, now guns will presumably be proliferating into the hands of honest citizens. Over the next few years we have a beautiful experiment to prove that more guns = less crime. I’m confident that this is precisely what the data will show.
I read an article day before yesterday about a man in DC who is a firearms instructor, who was waiting to see what the ruling would be. He’s anxious to start training folks in the safe use of handguns, rifles, etc.
Similarly Chicago, another social experiment gone awry. There are other similar places but Frisco and Chicago seem the next logical place to file suit. Heller was like the first good rain after a long dry spell. It will form the basis to challenge each and every infringement on our rights.
Micely marries? Ohfertheluvva...
“Nicely” marries. I meant.
the DC example won’t werk with the gun-grabbers... they interpret as a need for more restrictions on law abiding citizens... madness...
all the numbers I’ve read agrees, more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens=less crime...
