The Hobbit Hole XXXVI - O! Water cold we may pour at need...

Posted on 05/03/2008 8:48:06 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like y’all not having air conditioning for 3-4 months out of the year is kinda like us not having heat for 3-4 months out of the year (although we actually need heat about 5-6 months).

Or maybe it’s just that I can’t stand the thought of not having air conditioning.

Clare got home from school in FL on Monday evening. She was shocked at how cool it was! The highest daytime temp we’ve had since she got home is about 65. That will change in a couple of weeks, but it’s been a nice transition for her.

Yeah, but he doesn’t DO the x-rays; he only reads and interprets them.

It’s been awhile since I’ve used cartriges (I like nice messy ink bottles...), but usually, you open the pen up, drop the cartridge into the bottom part (i.e. the part without the nib) with the skinnier side of the cartridge pointing up toward the nib, and then screw the nib unit back on gently until the cartridge kinda pops - a little hole gets poked into it. It looks like the metal ball is on the opposite side, so it’d go down toward the end of the pen.

Does any of that make sense?

It’s a different culture. It would just be very weird to think of having it. We just open the windows and hope for a breeze. Lots of people don’t even have AC in their cars. Neither of our trucks do, though I’d want it if we bought a new one at this point. I’d actually miss open windows, that’s one thing I look forward to in spring.

Ah, better for him. Cause they got awfully ~personal~ with me, if you know what I mean...

You know your bedside manner is lacking if all you want to do is hose them down with radiation.

Better bedside manner than a pathologist, IMHO.

Yeah, no kidding!

But like I said, it’s one of the big reasons I so admire folks in that line of work.

It also means I tend to just read the articles on a lot of the medical related threads here. :-\ FReepers are kinda irrational when it comes to folks like doctors and law enforcement and lawyers. Bugs me.

Yeah, I think it’s just what you’re used to.

My Honda didn’t have air conditioning and I drove that in DC for 8 years. Often wearing a suit. ‘Course I was younger (and thinner) at the time.

*snort*

You know, I almost posted something like that, but I wasn’t quite sure how to say it....

Well, I kept trying and trying to push the skinny end of the cartridge down onto the spike (which is sheathed in a plastic tube) and couldn’t so I turned it around to where the metal ball was hitting the spike and popped it right on. It made a bit of a mess on the little grey grill like thing, but didn’t leak and writes great!

I’m thinking cartriges for Matthew, for the time being...we’ll do the converter thing eventually.

Remember Battlestar Galactica tonight. They have been getting pretty religious, not sure where it is going though. By the way, does everyone know that the last dozen or so episodes won't be shown until after the Presidential Inauguration!

I’ve never watched that. We’re at our quota for shows to watch, I guess. :~)

Well...so there ya go. I’ve not used that type before - glad you got it figured out!

Does it also take some standard type cartridges, or just the Platinum ones?

The sides are getting all mixed together, too. Not sure what to think. Last week was good, but confusing. I like Leoben - he’s an interesting character.

Being cheerfully told that you’re a harbinger of doom is always a little creepy, though...

I like Leoben

You must admit that his behavior on New Caprica was somewhat untoward, what with making Starbuck his sex slave and all.

I don’t know, I’m still on a learning curve...

But I think I gotta have a pink one.

Well...OK...I like Leoben *now*. As in I find him interesting - he’s not a nice guy.

At least he means well. He’s not just sleazy like...what’s his name? The Quantum Leap dude. Ick.

If you got an eyedropper Preppy, you could fill it with pink ink of some sort, too. ;-)

So far I like the eyedropper. It’s a little scratchy, but I think part of that is just being new.
