I thought 60 was a much better number than 50, and so, speaking from recent experience, I have two words for your evening’s preparation—Butt Balm. LSA

No can do. ;o)
I had a friend make an awesome Saint Nicholas costume, for our school's Holly Fair, when I was the chairman of the event. We had "Pictures with Saint Nicholas", and folks loved having their kids' pictures taken in their Christmas outfits with the guys dressed in the costume. The man who was our first Saint Nicholas, back in 1992, was still doing it as of year before last. He loved it, because he let his gray beard grow nice and long, so he wouldn't have to wear the one that came with the costume. It looked wonderful!

I don't know the time frame of your production, but I could see about sending it to you to use. It would fit you perfectly, because the guy for whom it was made is about the same height and build! They use it the first weekend of December, and possibly, Jim might use it again during the Christmas pageant, at the Childrens Mass on Christmas Eve. a picture showing the costume. It goes all the way to the floor, and has a hood on the back of the cloak.

Thanks! (I was sorta joking about the knitting thing).

I’d be afraid to borrow a costume like that and the timing wouldn’t work anyway. Do you have any full length pictures you could post or email me? That’s sort of what I’m thinking.

I can get it made. I just want to give them ideas before they start pulling stuff out of the costume shop and it’s too late.

LOL! I didn’t see your post, LSA, before I gave Corin my suggestion. My cousin, Debbie, works for a group of doctors, and she handles the appointments for colonoscopies. She says their patients swear by Boudreaux’s Butt Paste!

I don't have any pictures with him standing up. ThisMcCall's Pattern 2339 , has several costumes in it. The one with the King in the blue gown and gold robe with the crown looks similar to our Saint Nicholas. On ours, the long garment underneath is a simple cotton, and the robe is done in robe velour, with fake fur trim. The lady who was making it for me told me she almost went into respirator arrest when she was sewing on that fake fur, from all the fibers flying around! I just used a wide decorative trim down the center front. Actually that trim in the picture is new, because the old trim was just some burgundy ribbon that didn't hold up very well, so I replaced it about 5 years ago. I also had her put a hood on the robe, but that's optional.

On a more pleasant note (no pun intended), did I ever tell you about the lady I knew when I was in high school who had a maiden name that was pronounced “Do Re,” like the notes?

She married a name named Mee.

Did I ever mention that my former phone number when I worked for the city of Detroit was the first seven notes of "Yankee Doodle"?

Oh, pretty!! Could you please send me that pattern?

Okiedokes - it's a .pdf that isn't publicly available, but I can email it to you if you send me an addy on the FRmail. And it's crochet, not knitting. It needs a nice drapey-yarn. The author recommends Berroco "Seduce". My local yarn shop didn't have any of that and I wanted to start rightthisveryinstantthankyouverymuchAAAAH! And in doing so, I made a big mistake. The yarn I got is beautiful and absolutely perfect. It's Rowan's Natural Silk Aran - a viscose-silk-linen blend. Yummyummyummy.

But, I should have known better when I observed there were no prices on any of yarns. and...if you have to ask, you surely can't afford it. It was almost $10 a ball. $10 for 70 yards of yarn!! And you need 3x80+ yards to do the pattern, so I had to buy four! Plus I picked up some cute ribbon yarn for another project out of what looked like a "discount" basket. Again, no prices. I about had a heart attack when she rang me up and told me the total. Plus there was a group of girls doing a workshop at a table in the corner... and they were *watching*. So I chickened out, didn't pitch a fit, paid the dinero and blew about 3 months of my yarn budget in one visit. O.M.G. But that said, the Berroco is just as spendy. As much as I love supporting local businesses, I'm out of action for quite a while and will probably stick to clearance sales (as in 50+% off) online. *Sigh*

But! If you want an awesome *knitting* project that's perfect for beginners, this is it! The only stitch is the knit stitch. Just knit! The pattern comes from wrapping yarn around the needle one, two, or three times between each of the knit stitches. Then when you turn and work back across the row, you drop the wraps and knit the knit stitches and it looks super neat. I think it works with any yarn weight, but sport/DK or sock yarn will give you a nice scarf weight.

Tuesday night sword pron!

I had written this up last night as a sword pron post here, and for some reason known only to the bourbon glass last night... ended up posting it as a thread. I have no clue why I thought that was a good idea. But there it sits.

It’s here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/2084065/posts?page=1#1

I've never really shopped for yarn, but I can imagine how it can get spendy. I guess that's why the least expensive items on Karen Allen's website is $300 or more! I know that fabrics can get expensive, because I've shopped for quality gabardine and silk; EEEK!

Thanks for the pattern. I'll send you my e-mail in Freepmail! I already know how to crochet, I've just never learned to knit, and I do better when someone shows me how to do it. My Aunt Gertrude taught me to crochet when we came up from MS to RI for a visit, the year after I graduated from high school. I crocheted a small purse on the way home, and gave it to my niece.

And so it begins. Looks like a lot of interest, even if no one really knows enough to say much yet. Could be real interesting. :~)

Check it out. It happened again.... I guess even with the wall, not much can stop an out of control car moving fast.

Driver killed when SUV slams into building

None of the pictures show the view looking up/down the hill for perspective for everyone who hasn't been there. They say he didn't try to stop, no skid marks, I wonder if he just lost his brakes. I didn't know the bottom was a gym now, the top is the restaurant when ecurbh and I had the best meal of our lives after the wedding.
