**Ladies and Gentlemen...IT'S THE FR SINGLES THREAD 2-4 MAY** On Reading...

Posted on 05/02/2008 2:07:30 PM PDT by GOP_Raider

Well, it's perhaps a tad early for the thread to be up, but it is Happy Hour on the East Coast, so by the time a few of you have a few pre-weekend beverages, you'll be more than ready for the thread!

So in a few weeks, my nephew will be coming into town. Since his Mom and Dad (my sister and brother in law) thinks the boy will have no use for fancy book learnin', I am the one responsible to read to him.

"But my Uncle did read to me the entire Declaration of Independence when I last saw him. Hopefully he'll do it again since I don't think I'll get that kind of stuff in public schools."

So let's get this party started. What books would be good for a young skull full of mush like my nephew? Did you have any favorites when you were a kid? Did you enjoy reading more when you got to do it on your own as an adult or as a kid?

I'll have the bonus question with the ping...

All of the Dr. Suess books that were published before he died. (His wife “found” some liberal crap “in some bottom drawers” after he died.)

All of those fun rhymes make ‘em giggle.

That’s pretty much what I do with Rush, since I’m a Rush 24/7 subscriber. I think Levin had a book out recently I wanted to get and I can’t think of what the name of it was...

...and then talk to him a lot—looking him in the eye and using his name.

And hug him close because he’s going to grow up so horribly quickly that it will hurt your heart.

A coworker of mine had mentioned that Seuss had written some political commentaries when he was still alive that were very bitter and VERY liberal. I’m not sure if that’s what you are referring to, but I did remember hearing that.

I’ve been listening to Rush since I was about 12 years old (so about 1993) so I think I’ve been hearing “I was born to host and you were born to listen” soon after. I just tend to ignore it. :)

But I will say that since his rehab stint a few years ago, he seems...different to me. Whether he’s finally comfortable being himself—and he has said that for a very long time he was trying to get everyone to like him—he’s waxed philosophical a lot more since then.

Wasn’t Levin’s last book about his dog Sprite?

That’s when I first heard Rush too, around 93, but I was 11, I was a kid and didn’t care about politics, although I knew that Clinton was no good. That was one of several things that set me on the road to conservatism.

It was Rescuing Sprite, he’s talked about it on his show a lot. I haven’t ordered anything online since the credit cards were cut up and in the trash two years ago, but Amazon’s PC bias annoyed me.

That's why I joined the Conservative Book Club. But I don't think I've seen it there at least not yet anyway...

Testing testing...

My other web tv would not post although I can write in my tag line and send FRmail..

Sounds good to have a place to hang out where it is ok to be single and not chastised for it.
Wait wrong word. Not be told it is not okay.

As one freeper put it some of us like our solitude after a busy day in the world.

My life is so social orientated that when I have time off to my self I like some here may agree to do activities alone.
And I am not alone as I can very well see other people around me in what ever enviroment doing activities in the singular mode.

I have wondered about speech interpretors for the hearing impaired as we have similar jobs if they have a preference for solitude after a day of work.

I read a food study that said men more than woman liked Asparugus.

I wouldnt know it by the chats at the asparugus section.
I do know by the women who buy it like me at high cost or if it looks a bit rough/tough that it is a hard veggie to grow.
Takes 2years or was it 3 for the first harvest if ya get that far (consider we live in the PNW coastal). But it continues to harvest for 22yrs that is why they sometimes have thick stems them are the aged crops.

As far as beer I drank it alot when young love the stuff but just picky about brew.
Dont anymore except a few in the summer but more than a couple make that condition flare up where the big toe feels like ya broke it..

Used to be a beer from Arizona that had a whole chili in it Chilli beer have not seen that in years.
