Bank robber gives teller her name, address

McALLEN - A woman accused of robbing two banks this month gave investigators a vital clue to her identity Monday, when she passed a threatening note to a teller with her name and address on the back.

Investigators believe Maria Garcia, 33, scrawled the hold-up message on the back of a completed food stamp application moments before entering the Capital One Bank branch in downtown McAllen and making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Officers arrested her less than two hours later by tracking her to the address on the form. They also linked her to a similar robbery earlier this month at a Capital One bank in Mission.

Once the tellers handed over the cash, Garcia stepped outside but didn't get far before an ink pack embedded in the money exploded, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said.

They arrived Monday to find Garcia and an alleged accomplice - Ricardo Cavazos, 32 - trying to remove the license plates of a green Ford Expedition that police identified as their getaway vehicle.

A search of the SUV uncovered ink-stained clothing and money believed to have been taken from the McAllen bank, Longoria said.

Can we stretch the rules to nominate her for the Darwin award?

Incarceration does not preclude procreation, unfortunately. She really does need a < flashing > STOOPIDO < /flashing > sign, though .

on the plus side, she was at least trying to get off the gov’t handouts..

Now she will be receiving government handouts for the next 20 years.

If all the drivers here would get 90 days for the one finger salute, I’d almost have the road to myself.

Well, I don’t want my van pool office called. The van has the van number and office phone number on the side, front and back. I keep both hands on the wheel.

You won’t see me giving anyone the “one finger salute” / “you are the #1 driver” gesture.

I try not to get exasperated myself. It never fails that when I do, and then get closer to the offending driver, I see a handicapped emblem on the license plate or hanging from the mirror. That always makes me feel sheepish.

It's illegal to have anything hanging from the mirror if it hinders the full view while driving. Those things are only to be hung from the mirror when parked. My inlaws got a warning ticket from a DPS trooper and were told not to display it while the car is moving.
