A gourmet coffee blended from animal droppings is being sold at a London department store for £50 per cup.
Jamaican Blue Mountain and the Kopi Luwak bean are used to create Caffe Raro which is thought to be the most expensive cup of coffee in the world.
Kopi Luwak beans are eaten, then passed, by the cat-like Asian palm civet, and sell for £324 a kilogram.
All profits from sales of the coffee at Peter Jones in Sloane Square in April will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Ripest berries
Asian palm civets, which live in the foliage of plantations across south-east Asia, are said to pick the best and ripest coffee berries.
Enzymes in their digestive system break down the flesh of the fruit before the animals expel the bean.
The beans are then collected from the plantation floor by workers who wash away the dung and roast them.
David Cooper, who created the blend, said: "These rare coffees have been slowly hand roasted for around 12 minutes to ensure that we maximise the potential of each coffee.
"The final roast colour is quite dark to ensure that the espresso is perfect for a smooth latte or cappuccino."

You can already buy coffee that tastes like sh*t, and for much less money: it’s called “Starbucks”.

Hmm, I’ve got three domestic cats. Wonder if I could start my own local coffee business...

Reminds me of Cheech and Chong’s “Up in smoke.”
Cheech: “Hey man is this dope Columbian, man?”
Chong: “No, man. It’s Labrador.”
Cheech: “Labrador? I never heard of no dope from Labrador?”
Chong: “Yeah, man. My parents’ dog ate my stash and I had to follow him around for three days to get it all back.”
Cheech: (Coughs and retches)

Looks like some enterprising entrepreneur would invest in a plane ticket to Asia, trap a couple of those civets, feed 'em coffee beans in London, and undercut the price.
And not just London. This is the kind of thing that would go over big in trend-and-status-conscious California.
And I wonder if anybody's tried feeding coffee beans to alleycats, as a means of processing the beans. (Be careful. It'll likely make them jumpy.) (The cats, not the beans.)
Say this opens up all sorts of possibilities: Dogs. Llamas. Alpacas (you gotta love them). Minah birds. Lizards. Horses. Raccoons (there's a good idea). Think of all the species. Humans! This could be the next billion dollar business!

There is a very funny scene in the movie
"Bucket List", which by the way is an excellent movie, in which Jack Nicholson's character brews Kopi Luak coffee and savors the aroma and flavor, without knowing the history behind it (except that it is very expensive) You should see his face when Morgan Freeman's character tells him of the coffee's origin. Nicholson asks "Are you sh*tting me?" Freeman replies, "No, the cat (civet) already did"
It is a very touching comedy filled with the emotions of facing death, living life to its fullest, reconciling relationships, and an endearing friendship of strangers.

In China the beans are too expensive, so they end up having to do some dung shaoping...
