My house:
Corky, Butch, Rameses, and Ginger.
Sometimes it works in reverse—former neighbor girl’s name is Cortney, but they called her “Corky.”

Mine is named Dan. Before that, we had Annie, Leila, and Chris. The only odd named dog we’ve owned was Peso.

I wanted to name our female Yorkie Monica because she was a licker. Wife wouldn’t let me so we wound up with Chelsea because she had an underbite (like Web).

I’m guilty. Our house. Dudley the dog(gone but not forgotten), Nell the dog(gone but not forgotten), and Moriarty the cat. We use Mori for short.

Jackson, inherited from our daughter.
Vicky. She looks like Nipper, the RCA dog, I worked for RCA years ago, and we lived on Victorian Circle (hence the play on “Victrola”).

For many Americans, pets are substitutes for the children they never bothered to have, are putting off having, or are estranged from due to divorce.

IMO, all of this is because people are humanizing animals. Substituting dogs and cats for kids.
Let a dog have a dignity of being a dog. Out of the stroller and onto chewing poo, like a dog should.
That being said, we have Minnie the Maniac. The name fits her.
Here she is getting ready to type her blog...

I’m guilty of using human names too. My two cats are Abby and Annabelle and the dog I grew up with was Heidi. For some reason I never thought to use anything but “people” names.

I guess we’re old fashion.

Poor dog. My husband keeps making up the strangest!! nicknames for her. Me. I stick w/ Madam - it fits her.
