I live on an AFB (Base housing just got privatized a couple of months ago) so have to go through the company that manages housing.
I see the darn thing sticking out of the baseboard and it does looked spooked. The cat is in the kitchen “patrolling” and keeping it scared (Kitchen can be closed off from rest of the house) but might have to try your idea.
Had a possum problem outside last fall. Caught a big one outside with a trap that was provided but I guess another "momma" is back because because this one looks rather small.

if it was me I would put on a nice thick pair of leather work gloves on my hands and a thick coat to protect my arms. I would get a deep trash can with a lid inside near the animal and I would yank that sucker out by his tail from the base board. If you can't get a hold of it, gas the sucker out with some sort or aerosol spray like air freshener, etc.

Some of that base housing was built in 1940, LOL. It's most likely a baby, better check the attic and crawl space, momma is somewhere near. Welcome to Florida!!

We live in a small town in NC and we had a young possum in our basement a couple years ago. We borrowed a humane trap from a friend and baited it with peanut butter on crackers. We caught him the first night we had the trap out and the next morning we called Animal Control. They came out and picked him up to be relocated, or so my husband assured me. I have a sneaking suspicion they really put it down.
