This will never be developed because we in America love the following more than oil:

If Bush is any kind of leader, he will immediately declare this open for drilling, and allow the immediate groundbreaking on new refineries within miles of the drilling sites. If the eviro-weenies want to start something, begin an add campaign, in concert with the oil companies stating that “these fruits and nuts are the reason that your kids’ college fund is disappearing into your gas tank.”

Follow that up with drastic reductions in orders from OPEC and watch that dollar per barrel drop like a friggin’ stone.

The stuff requires horizontal drilling and will cost $25 to $40 a barrell to drill, so it's only viable when the prices are high.

Even at 600 million barrells that is less than 30 days of our oil usage. Quick Google: 19 million barrells a day in 2001 USA consumption. 7.2 billion barrells a year consumed in 2001.

That's 600 billionbarrels. Billion, with a 'b'.

So...what kind of tax breaks are the oil companies going to insist on before they'll drill?

Oil exploration and drilling will destroy the habitat the Corn Palace needs to survive!

Those are only the initial costs including setup, based on today's estimates. Once the wells are in operation, in a maintenance scenario, actual costs are likely to be less, but we won't see any of that reduction at the pump.

Bush needs to do that before McCain gums up up the works with his Global Warming bull.

I don’t care if we save a dime at the pump. We need to stop sending so much money to the Mideast in exchange for oil. It would also be great to have a large reliable reserve here for national security reasons.

“We need to stop sending so much money to the Mideast in exchange for oil.”

Actually we’re sending more money to Canada and other countries than the ME.

Here’s another story that says the survey may reveal that the “Bakken formation” (which stretches across western and central North Dakota, eastern Montana, southern Saskatchewan and part of northwestern South Dakota) could theoretically hold up to...

get ready for this....

900 BILLION barrels = 3.5x time Saudi Arabia’s current reserves.

Research on Bakken Formation’s Oil Reserves Nearly Completed

It IS being developed (the oil industry in the state is huge), and there is a LOT more oil in ND than was previously thought. Some of it is just less feasible because of horizontal drilling costs. Having oil is way, way more money than raising corn for biofuels.

Finally, we import much more oil from Canada and Mexico than we do from the ME.

I hate to sound like a conspiratorial whack-job bit did anyone put yesterday's story and the re-occurrence of this story of the Bakken field together?

Follow the $ you will find the power. The oinkers in the House and Senate want a taste, just like the mob. Either bigger taxes or nationalizing this field.

The Markey Dog and Pony show was to take the thunder off the good news of us going independent visa this field alone. Agghh these clowns are enough to make me want to scream.
