texting it to her now....thanks!!!!
Yes, thank you.
Prayers up!
Make sure the boy has a portable game system and plenty of batteries- so speaks a veteran of many multi-day car trips with kids. Books are great, but if he’s not a prodigous reader, now is not the time to make him one :)
she leaves Friday
My only problem with cell phone coverage in Tx was south of Wichita Falls heading to Killeen. I have had ATT and Cingular. I-10 is an arms-required zone for me as a male adult. Too many illegals, too much drug smuggling in that area. If you get a flat at night, you need to pull security concurrent with the tire change.
For future reference if your daughter goes into Americas Outback
again in the future...
Maybe this is overkill, but there are some hi-tech “beyond cell phones”
items for signalling from the middle of nowhere.
The first one is new and reasonably priced (with yearly service fees).
The second one has been out awhile and is a more serious device.
MAJOR CAVEAT: don’t use these sorts of items frivolously. IIRC, one
j-ack@$$ got himself in plenty of trouble with the authorities for
signalling for emergency rescue in the Adirondacks of New York...
TWICE in one winter season from the same location!!!
(The Army/National Guard was NOT smiling when they sent a
helicopter in to save that peckerwood TWICE!)

Keep the doors locked and the windows rolled up in this neighborhood.
Nowadays, we Texans allow visitors to enter the state without raping your horses and stealing your children.
Yeah, but the MSM has told us all about this evil George W. Bush character and he's from Texas, so you can't be too careful. ;)
in the daytime, too. I was driving from Phx-Sd last April and saw a flipped-over immigrant van near Gila Bend - obviously running from the border patrol.
Look at it in Google Earth. You can literally scrutinize every mile of the route, you can even have it mark gas stations, police stations, banks, restaurants, hotels, etc...
FABULOUS recommendation!!!! Thank you
Freepers!!! You guys are the greatest. There is so much good advise on this tread that I copied the whole thing and send it to her.
My rules for her had a lot to do with protecting her from herself. She was very “green” behind the ears and was never aware of her surroundings. When it came to driving....well, let's just say that at the time she would get lost trying to get out of a paper-bag. To her street signs were merely suggestions. She was/is very, very book-smart, but at the time had no common sense (read - immature}.
One time I let Eaker take care of something and I get blamed ?!?!?!?........:o)
Hey !........:o)
If you/she has AAA, go to a AAA office and they will print you out a custom map showing rest areas, gas, food, lodging etc. I think it might be called a TripTix. It is compact and very easy to use. If she knows anyone that has AAA, they can help her get one. I use it when I travel from CA to OK.
We don’t go on any road trips without one.
And a side trip to Iran is worth it just to say you’ve been there.
You know her better than anyone and how she was at the time. So, I’m really in position to second-guess it.
Texas is the only state I’ve been in where perfect strangers wave to you as you pass them on rural roads. It’s a friendly state.
Iraan is okay, if you want to see lots of nothing just a little farther north of Iraan is Big Lake. Lots of nothing.
Unless she would like to spend a pleasant afternoon making fruit explode, that is.
